BattleZone ROM question
« on: May 04, 2008, 06:36:28 pm »
I was wondering if anyone else has problems running this rom on thier systems. My system plays most roms no problem, but i cannot get this one to run worth a crap. It is sooooo choppy i cant even play it. Its like a slow-mo frame by frame. There is another battlezone style game which i forget the name of which i have the same problem with. I can run much nicer 3D roms with great graphics no problem, so why cant i run battlezone?
The system is a 2.5ghz Pentium, 512mb ram, 80gig HD. I also have a little problem with the Metal Slug ROMS. Which really stinks because they are why i built my cab in the first place. Its my favorite game. The ROM runs fine, but when you encounter multiple foes or many explosions, the game speed drops to a crawl. Its lame to play MS without the fast pace action  :hissy:
Any help on how to get these roms to run at speed would be great. Thanks for all your help!

Weird, have you tried a different version of MAME?  Battlezone works fine for me.

yes, i tried an older verison, same thing. Im now running the newest version. Also, it seems to be all games with that type of graphics. Empire strikes back, battlezone clone, and a few others run the same way. So slow and choppy, you cant even play.

The Metal Slug problem may be a problem with Metal Slug itself.  Even in the arcades if you had a lot of "stuff" on the screen, the game would slow to a crawl.  Hit F11 during the game and you'll see the emulation level.  If it's at or around 100% and it's still slow, then it is MAME accurately emulating the problems that the actual arcade games had.  (Double Dragon is another example of this where MAME is accurate in emulating the crappy hardware).
Donkey Kong High Scores:
1): 49,500
2): 35,600
3): 30,100
4): 29,400
5): 28,200
