question about front end and custom lists
« on: April 29, 2008, 02:41:17 pm »
So I've been using Mala and I love using the custom game lists.  The problem is that if you just came up to the machine, you wouldn't know how to access these custom lists.  I could add another button for it, but my CP is already set.  Is there any FE that lets you change the default behavior of pulling up the main game list?  Can I pull up a list of custom lists instead?  Like if I make custom lists for vertical games, Capcom games, gun games, etc, can I have these show up in a list or maybe a thumbnail menu?

Atomic with his plug'in system allow to do this kind of things. But it require you have some vbscript programing experience.

In standard, Atomic allows you to start directly on a Favorties list.

And i have a plugin that manages multiple favorites lists. You press a key or a button (you can assigne where you want) , it open a menu on screen where you select the list you want. Then the main list is replaced by the list you choosed.

But if you are happy with your mala setup , it is may be better to stay with mala.  And may be his plugins system allow also to do this kind of things.

I don't use the tree view.  I just tell Mala not to show the main game list so that only the custom lists will show up (see the attached screen shot of turning off the main game list).  On the screen I have an image of a joystick along with arrows that show how to change the game list from one custom list to another.  In the attached example, you push the joystick either left or right to change the game list from "Classics" to a different game list.

However, if you prefer the tree view that may be the way to go.  That will allow you to see a list of custom game lists all on the screen at the same time.

I'm not a vbscript programmer so I think AtomicFE might be out for me.  SGT, I'm looking at the two pictures and I'm confused.  The one shows the main screen with the Classics list up but in the second picture there are multiple lists for the Classics.  Also how did you edit the backgrounds to put a pic of the joystick in there?  Just a photo editor?  But otherwise your approach looks good, I'll probably go that direction.  Thanks.

I've got my mame machine setup like SGT as well, multiple lists and just right/left with joysticks to go from one list to another.
Pressing button 1 on player one and pressing left/right changes emu.(pinmame)
