Dead Sega/Nanao MC2000S 19" from Zaxxon Upright

So glad this forum exists!

Details: I have an original Zaxxon Upright which used to work 5+ years ago. After two moves the monitor appears to be dead. All the pots have been messed with 3+ years ago after the first move when the screen was becoming very dim.

Being an adventurous novice in the field of electronics, what's my first step in getting monitor back on it's feet?

get checking for bad solder connections on the chassis

Here's a few pictures of the monitor. Is that rust? Can it be saved?

its not rust just really old flux around the solder joints.
you need to do the basic checks i.e
using a multimeter check the mains voltage input(probably 100-110v)
check very carefully for dry/broken solder joints
check all the plugs are home
check if you have a orange glow from the neck
turn the screen volts on the flyback up a little to see if you get a pic of some kind

Any recommendations for safely discharging the monitor before disassembling it?

all the places you need to access you can do without discharging the tube,just make sure you do not have the mains plug connected
