My First Conversion
«
on:
April 17, 2008, 11:51:34 am »
I just picked up an old TMNT Arcade cabinet that had been converted into a Golden Tee 99 machine. I am in the process of converting the cabinet to a MAME machine.
The monitor that was in the cabinet died on me last week so I picked up a 25inch Samsung 1080p LCD monitor. I know it is not the best for the older games but it still looks great and now I can also play PC games at higher resolutions.
I currently have my desktop connected do the cabinet until I find some time to install it into the unit itself.

Looks good. I like the monitor. It looks good in horizontal games, but how does it effect vertical games like pacman?
Also, I think you should add some color to the machine. The cheapest way would be new T-molding

Thanks,
I just ordered some t-molding yesterday. Unfortunately it is black. I also ordered 2 Mag-Stick Plus joysticks and 12 Blue, 2 Green and 2 Red LED illuminated pushbuttons so that should hopefully add some color. I still need to get a light gun and spinner but I am not sure where to get them.
Plus I also need to get some side art. I was thinking about adding a design to the control panel. I think it looks kinda dull.
As for vertical games they look great!

I just installed my new mag-stick plus controllers. I played Street Fighter Alpha 3 for a few hours and I really do not like the 8-way on these. I am going to switch back to my previous controllers for the moment.
Does anyone have any suggestions on the best 8-way controller for fighting games?
I also installed my lighted pushbuttons! I will post some more pictures tonight.

I agree with Shardian, get some colored T-molding. The red didn't look so bad. Save the black for your next project.

Update: Updated pics with the lighted push buttons and black t-molding.
I will be ordering some colored t-molding today and see if it makes the cabinet stand out more.
I just ordered my lighted track ball upgrade and 4 more lighted push buttons. I will update again once I have them installed.

That's a nice looking cabinet. It has plenty of room for the players and the control panel is very clean. I would gladly have that in my living room. (if the wife would let me)

It looks good!
My cab is very similar:D
Do you have any larger pics of the ones posted? I'm still in the process of building mine and being able to see some of the finer details would help me out.
