MAMEWAH, Can't get video previews working
« on: April 14, 2008, 03:13:01 pm »
I know this has been posted before, but I tried the suggestions in those threads and still can't see video previews.

It just displays the still pictures instead of the videos. Files are in the correct directories and named like the roms (they're the EmuMovies set), and the videos DO play in Media Player, so I have the correct codec(s) installed. The layout file DOES have artwork #1 and #2 present, so that bug is accounted for as well.

Mamewah file version is 1.6.0.2

Here's the relevant part of my mame.ini:
Code: [Select]
### Artwork Settings ###
artwork_image_paths                       auto:[emuexepath]\snap;[emuexepath]\titles;[emuexepath]\marquee;[emuexepath]\control;[emuexepath]\cabinet;[emuexepath]\flyers;[emuexepath]\boxart;[emuexepath]\cart;[emuexepath]\art9;[emuexepath]\art10
movie_preview_path                        C:\Program Files\MAME\previews
movie_artwork_no                          1
enable_fuzzy_search                       0
history_dat_file
history_dat_artwork_no                    2

I posted this by mistake in the Artwork forum, but it has yet to get moved here to Software.

Do you have the latest version of Mamewah (sounds daft but I can't tell from the version no.)? If you got it from the Mamewah message board, then it probably isn't the latest version.

Yep, I do have the latest version (1.62) which I downloaded from that link.

Hmm, all looks right to me.  What is the delay_before_movie_preview in mamewah.ini set to?

Try changing the preview Artwork # to 2, just as a test.

Delay before movie preview is set at 2

I tried switching the artwork to 2 like you suggested, but the images don't change. The way it's set up right now is that #1 is the screenshots (still pics) and #2 is the title. When I changed the artwork to 2 it still shows the title and the screenshots.

I bet I'm missing something obvious, I'll just have to go through the ini files with a closer look and see where I've made a mistake.

Probably...I have had it myself and thought 'what the f*** is wrong here!'. Usually when you figure it out it is something simple, but it's extremely annoying while thinking about it!

One other thing you could try is setup an intro movie - just to ensure movie playback is working ok. Also check mamewah.log as this should note if Mamewah does not like a particular movie file.

I will check the log file, the intro movie is working as I already have this set up.

Also, I noticed that the link you gave me it has the "final" version 1.62 and based on the date there, I may have previously downloaded the beta version. So I'm going to try that file and see if it works. Thanks for your help this far, I REALLY love Mamewah.

I just keep going over this and over this....
I'm trying to figure out your problem too, and I'm clueless. I know I had trouble at first, but everything I did wrong, you've done right.
I don't get it...

Are your movie files in this folder?
C:\Program Files\MAME\previews

Yep, that's where they are. I even corrected the path for case (I don't think it's case sensitive but just in case) and I tried with and without a backslash at the end of the path. No joy.

Yes please make you you have the 'final' version (sorry the numbering is confusing). This fixes a bug which helped a good few people's video playback troubles out.

Fingers crossed you have the older version atm!

I got it working, and as I suspected it was my own dumb fault. Even though I thought for sure that I had the right path, my mame folder is actually under C:\Program Files\MAME so I had the wrong path.

Thanks for the help. Something I noticed with the 'final' version was if I switched to a different platform and then brought up the options menu it was almost invisible. It was like the transparency was set to 90% or more. When I bring up options after starting Mamewah it displays correctly, but once I change platform then it shows like that. Even if I change back to the first platform it still shows like that until I exit and restart the program. Because of this I went back to the previous version I had.

Last thing, can I turn off the sound from the previews but keep the other Mamewah sounds (up, down, start game, etc.)?

Yeah, check out the options under the Movie Settings in the mamewah.ini in the main mamewah folder.

As far as the transparency, I had to go in and edit each layout to fix it.

Yes, this is the way to go.

It is not a bug...or actually it is, an old one fixed by the latest Layout Designer - previously there was some stuff being saved incorrectly into the layout file.

To mute movies, set the following in mamewah.ini:

music_movie_mix             mute_movies

when the games load, I get a transparent loading box. How do I fix that?

Same way you fixed the options screen...use the Layout Designer to set the 'Message Form' Opacity to 255.

I'll have to check that when I got home, but I'm pretty sure I did that.
