Killer Instinct - Monitor Replacement
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:19:10 pm »
Hi, I'm new here so hello and hopefully this is roughly in the right section of the forum:

My friend has a Killer Instinct v4.0 5770-14397-03 '94 in its original case, when he bought the cabinet he was told that one day the 'tv stopped working' - there's audio.

So he's bought a SAMBERS AI59EAK522X11 - POLO/2 25/28 15/25KHz to replace the broken monitor, at this point he called me in, I'm no expert... as you've probably guessed but enjoy tinkering with stuff, so down to the question:

On the original neck board i've located the the positive, negative and earth however the connector is different to that on the new monitor. I've also found 6 wires leading to the neck board from the KI board am I right in thinking that the 6 are for carrying the video signal?  If so the connector is once again different from neck board to neck board.

To sum up, can anyone tell if i'm able to purchase new connectors and fit them myself? or am i way off the mark?

Also I read somewhere about checking the fuse, this was after I visited.  So next time I'll check it, any help on the location?

Anyways hopefully that makes some sense, can anyone help?

hello and congrats at starting with a monitor question, your friend has got a good monitor btw
you are calling the monitor chassis the "neck board"-neck board is the small board on the tube neck
the plugs you require should be available from hantarex,if you look at the back of the monitor on the metal frame you will see a sticker showing which wire goes where although your friend should have recieved a manual and all the plugs if the monitor was new
when you get the new connectors just simply cut the old one's off and join using connector strip-obviously without the cab powered
where are you u.k or u.s?

Hi thanks for the reply, and for pointing out what the neck board actually is  :-[ I'll be the first to admit I'm no pro, and cheers for the pointer on where to source the parts anyways I'm in the UK.

I won't get a chance to take another look at the cab for a week or maybe a little longer, but as soon as I do I'll most probably be posting a few more questions and some pics just to make sure all goes well.

Once again thanks for the help  :)

Hantarex are based in sydenham hill, london www.hantarex.co.uk
try contacting either them or craig at www.giz10p.co.uk as i am sure he would have some of these connectors
here is a pic of what you need, notice the wiring-the voltage plug on the left is wired LIVE/NOT USED/NEUTRAL,the earth is connected to the metal frame
this monitor will work on any voltage from 96volts to 245volts ac

the video input cable is wired horizontal sync(composite)/not used/ground/blue/green/red

Hi once again sorry its taken me so long to get round to re-posting, I haven't actually purchased any parts as of yet, and will most likely need a step by step installation guide if possible (i know its asking alot) or a bit of guidance from you guys via pics and discussions.  At this point I'm hoping to order the plug, does anyone know a URL for the actual part?

sorry if this makes no sense... i've been drinking  :)
