Ikaruga released for Xbox live arcade!!!
« on: April 11, 2008, 10:20:54 pm »
hey guys, i don't know exactly when it happened, but Ikaruga is now available on xbox live for 800points. (about $10). anyone who owns a 360 and who is familiar with the game has probably already stopped reading this to go download it, but any of you who havent played it, you need to go get this game now. it is an awesome 2d shooter created by treasure, and is the unofficial sequel to Radiant Silvergun.

the game plays just like it did on the dreamcast,(which is a good thing), and now it is in english!!! it looks spectacular in high def, and still supports screen rotation, just in case you have your 360 connected to a display you can rotate... or if you want to lay on your side and play :)  i have my 360 hooked up to a Mitsubishi HC1500 DLP projector, and i was really wishing there was a way to rotate my 102" screen..

anyway, if you have a 360, you need to go download this game...NOW!!!  it is the only reason i bothered installing a dreamcast in my mame cabinet.

Great game.

Already own it for DC & GC, so no buy for me, but a nice way to get it much cheaper than ebay for everyone else.

You're not at a site called "Build Your Own Arcade Controls" or anything. :P

Pointless complaint here anyway, as you can't really say this is a game that relies much on the d-pad. It works just fine with analog stick.

Maybe its pointless to you, but IMO shmups are not meant to be played with analog sticks.  Ever.  It works "fine" with it I guess, but it should not be played that way.

You're right about being at BYOAC though -- I just have zero time to make a 360 stick right now though.  Sucks for me heh.

Well, I personally do use a byo arcade stick, but I don't see how using the analog stick effects negatively on the control of a game like this at all.

I can understand that argument for fighting games, where a quick combination of exact directions are needed, but why would a shmup like Ikaruga be effected?

I noticed no ill effect on my movement with the regular controller (using analog) vs. using my arcade stick. My only real reason for using the arcade stick for the game is the arcade feel that my mind wants when playing.

Have you played the demo, or are you just inserting a blanket "360 d-pad sucks" argument?

I do agree that the d-pad sucks. I just don't see how it matters in this case.

Yes I've played the demo.  I have it for Gamecube and Dreamcast as well.  I don't like the analog stick for precise movements berween bullets.  That may sound odd in text since the analog SHOULD give you more precision in theory, but in my opinion, that doesn't work in practice.

FWIW, I'm not the only one that thinks this too.  A lot of shmup players are not fond of using the analog stick.

Fair enough.

Like I said, I did build my own arcade stick, so it isn't like I really gave a the analog stick much of a workout.

I just  personally don't see it being any different from using a d-pad in this kind of game.

Obviously there is technically a difference though, just by the fact that they are totally different control types, so if it is something that effects you...

Again...

Fair enough. ;)

Care to elaborate?  Ive only played the dreamcast version emulated, but I have had zero problems with the XBLA version.

Huh?

The resolution is no different than any other release of the game.

Lag with friends? Are you talking about online play?

You know... That online play thing that is something completely new added to the game.

It is a port of a great game, being sold for pretty cheap, with the new ability to play with friends online, and as far as the core game, it is no different than any other release of the game.

What in the world were you expecting? It's not like the game is called Ikaruga II or something.

The game is terrible on XBLA

You may feel let down by the fact that it isn't a "new" game chock full of extras, but it is just as good a game on XBLA as it is on any other system.

Thats an odd stance for someone on this site.  XBLA gives the chance for neo-retro gaming, if they released Donkey Kong as an arcade perfect port, would you have the same complaint?

Not to mention, they get to add some really great features that do not change the original gameplay at all.  Online play is great, and the ability to watch and share replays is cool as well.  And leaderboards for the epeen are always fun.

Hell the game I anticipate the most for the Xbox is Super Turbo HD, and despite new graphics, the game is basically the same.
