Cutting trackball hole in plastic CP
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:00:09 am »
I have a Die Hard cab that is similar to those old Duramold cabs. Its all molded plastic. I wan to cut a hole in the CP for a trackball and I was thinking of using a holesaw since I do not have a router. I know there is a certain kind I should get (in regards to teeth of the bit).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

I just used a standard bi-metal hole saw with a piece of mdf underneath to support it. Just let the saw do the work and don't put too much pressure on it.

There isn't a whole lot of variation among hole saws. Most are bi-metal with a moderately low tooth count. It is possible to find fine-tooth hole saws, though it isn't easy... and may not be appropriate for this application.

If anyone does need a fine-tooth hole saw, you can buy them at  KK Industries. Look for their Rockhard hole saws.
