Too much RED
« on: April 07, 2008, 04:16:31 pm »
Not sure if I should put this here or in Consoles. It barely qualifies as a console, so I'll place it here I guess.

My GF's daughter has one a V.Smile, it's the older model without the touch pad.

One thing I've noticed is this damn thing has an astonishing amount of red. So much red that some games are just about unviewable (to my eyes) with all the bleed over that occurs. A similar thing, but not nearly as bad, occurs with one of those crappy X-in-1 joysticks that sports all those games no one has ever heard of. Too much red.

It's not the TV since every other (yes, better) console has perfect levels of red. Obviously, it's the quality of the consoles. But I'm kind of surprised the V.Smile has this problem since the console seems to bill itself to discerning parents wanting an education for their children... you know, those soccer moms with too much money and too much time. You can find the consoles in a number of stores like Fry's, Wal*Mart, Toys-R-Us and I believe I even spotted a few at some higher end baby stores.

I don't want to modify the TV to reduce the red, since it's shared by other consoles. Anyone have any ideas on anything I can do to the console(s) itself or something in-line on the composite signal to reduce or control the amount of red?

i'd open the v-smile and hope for something obvious.
cracked pcb, conductive debris, loose connection etc.......
barring that .. research  @ www.alldatasheet .com or similar site for functions on any ic that u don't recognise..
might be able to figure it out .
