Original working xbox for $20 Now I have Two!
« on: April 02, 2008, 12:58:11 pm »
Out of the blue one of the people I had emailed when I was looking for an Xbox project emails me back asking me if I'm still interested.  It's been three months but duh, I pick up just the box no cables or anything for 20 bones.

It fires up but the controller ports are not working...No matter I can put the DVD drive in my other box and have a fully functional unit.  I'm stoked.

This box has been modded I have yet to open it up to see what is going on.  The teen I bought it from could not put a sentence together to save his life...He mentioned that it had been chipped and that something broke off. ??? I tried to get clarification but it was just awkward so since I was gonna buy it even if it was totally broken I handed him a 20 and drove home.

I might email him and ask for a better desc. but then again I don't really care.  I love tearing stuff apart too.  I wonder what chip is in it.

Controller ports 1&2 and 3&4 are a set of brackets that then wire into the motherboard by an easy connector.  No soldering, you could basicly field replace it with your Torx screw drivers and a replacement part.  I suggest you open the thing up first and see if some idiot took them out of the motherboard and forgot to put them back in.

Opener her right up and sure enough the USB riser had become disconnected.

It works fine now.

I took a look at the modchip but it's not anything that I can recognize.

Perhaps I'll take a picture of it and try to find out what it does.  Right now the system boots to the standard Xbox dash So I have no idea what it's for.

Some of teh MODCHIPS you had to hold the power button for 2 seconds to turn the chip on or off.. so its possible the chip is in an off state. Or more likely not installed correclty or not connected in some spot. Sounds like you got a good deal to me.
