Atomic fe problem
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:43:38 pm »
This is probably a no brainer for most of but I'm stumped. I started setting up this cocktail unit with atomicFe but the front end goes vertical and the games stay horizontal, is there a setting I'm missing. (I want the games vertical)

Thanks again, Dave

There are several ways to solve this. If your using AtomicFE's built in rotation, then every other Emulator or program you will have to set their rotation option also. In Mame you edit the mame.ini file (run "mame.exe -cc" if it doesn't exist) and there are ror (rotate right or clockwise) and rol (rotate left or anti-clockwise) options you can set to 1 or send them as -ror or -rol in Mame's command line options.

Not all emulators support rotation, but if your only running Mame then this is fine, although going this way means AtomicFE and Mame have to do a bit of extra work with your CPU to handle the rotation.

Another option is to rotate your screen using your video card's hardware. Check out a program called iRotate or use the software that comes with your video card.

All that being said I don't have a cocktail cab so I can't say for sure which is the best way to go. I would assume using the video card rotation is better because it's all handled on the hardware level. Also that will mean your entire desktop will be rotated also, so every other emulator and program you run will also be rotated.

As said HeadKaze,

If you are using mame you use the Ini way or open you .cfg with AtomicManager ,

then go on the "Folder" tab

then go on "main" subtab

and just behind your mame.exe in the Default Emulator Field add , for instance :  -rol   to have something like :

c:\mame\mame.exe -rol    (or -ror)

FYI , i have an official forum for support in English here :

http://spaceinvaders.7.forumer.com/      in AtomicFE section.

As you have a coktail cab, you may be interrested in the Coktail Mode option , to activate it, go on "options" tab , "option 2" subtab , and tick "Enable cocktail mode"  . In this mode when you press "PLAYER2 BUTTON 2" , the screen will be flipped to the second player  and control are given to him to allow him to select a game.

Things are starting to work better now, the screen is rotating, some games are running. I don't think the cocktail option in Atomic is working for me, I have to change the dip swith for cocktail mode in each game, exit and restart to get cocktail to work. This means if there is no cocktail dip  it doesn't flip. I did learn that each computer acts differently, I had been experimenting different setups on my laptop and running them in the cabinet after, but what works on one computer doesn't always work on another.  Thanks for the help.

the coktail mode of Atomic, is only for Atomic not for mame. It just Flip the menu to the second player, not the game.  That is just usefull if you want let your friend choose the game himself .  ;)
