Linux Modeline +arcade monitor question
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:41:38 pm »
I'm using an old 19" wellsgardner cga monitor hooked up to a pc.  I use a modeline in linux that works great to display a 6480x480 interlaced to the monitor.  Question is, during the pc bootup the card kicks out a "standard" 640x480 mode that makes the monitor go haywife until the modeline kicks in.  Any ideas on how to disable video linux starts up?

Are you wanting to disable the video during the bios post as well?  If so, your best bet may be to use a relay and have the monitor shut off until linux loads and you can use something like the parallel port to trigger the relay to turn on the monitor. (just a theory, have never done it)
What are you using as your boot loader?  Grub?

Yes, I am using grub.

It would be ideal to turn off the bios video too.  I figured I would have to use external electronics but wanted to see if anyone had some clever ideas.
