D9200, supporting weight of

A favored form of cab constuction seems to be using 1x1 at the corners with wood or drywall screws.  Does this also support the ~80 lbs of a WG D9200?

An thinking a couple of carraige bolts on each side to support 1x1's, which in turn support a shelf for the monitor would be stronger.  But then you have the bolt heads visilble on the outside.

Those that use a heavy monitor, what works for you?

Well, I can't speak for everyone but here's what I did:

I used 1x1's, not as a supporting frame, but to add more glueing area for my sides.  The 1x1s don't run along every inch of the cab.  I used 3/4" plywood and high quality wood glue.  The strength of the cabinet should come from the sturdiness of the 4 sides.

For mounting my d9200 - I cut some pieces of 3/4" plywood around 3"x10" and glued them to the insides for a shelf, also made of 3/4" plywood.  I screwed them in just to be redundant.  If you use a high quality wood glue with enough surface area those things aren't going anywhere.   I created a brace for the top of the monitor, though some people just set it on the shelf and that is fine, too.

Frost, thanks, you have some good pics on your site.  Your idea of the 3x10 plywood, vertical, sounds good, more surface area for glue to hold.

one last for you, does the plywood "shelf" bow any under the weight of the monitor?  Think it needs any brace underneath?

There's no way it could bow under the d9200 - it's 3/4" birch plywood.  And it's only about 26 inches wide.  I actually sat on the thing to test it out - it's nice and strudy
