Been considering a simple projection setup for use with MAME (direct from PC) and possibly some console games.  I've seen some apparently decent projectors in the $500-$700 range, but was wondering if anyone here had another other suggestions.  Does projection even work well for this application?  Can I get a used or discounted projector for less somewhere that would work well?

Head over to the AVS forums... they'll have the best current deals on refurb, backdoor specials, etc right on the tip of their keyboards.  That is, if you can get through the noise.

Registered, thanks.  At a quick look, I understand your comment about the noise already.  Also, being the good guy I am, I noticed one of their rules that forbids "What can I get to do X for under $Y?" threads, so I may have to get a little creative with my question there.

I'd start with a date sorted search on projector reviews.  Pretty much everything you're going to ask is probably already in their history 100x.  Once you have something a bit more specific than that a new thread should be fine.  Those rules are mostly for people who would come in with a vague question and zero research/not understanding the concepts.

Hi,
I have an Infocus X1 projector I use for gaming that works great. You can pick up the Infocus X2 for around $500 new.
I would not suggest buying a used projector because of the finite bulb life (2000-4000 hours). A replacement bulb will cost upwards of $300.
Good luck!
Alex
