Modded PSP
« on: March 24, 2008, 04:14:37 pm »
My brother gave me a modded PSP.  Not sure what mod it uses, but it still displays version 3.71 (or similar, not sure, I'm at work and left it at home).  Anyone know what mod this would be?

Also, what can I do with a modded PSP besides the obvious (play backups)?

I just got my hands on it yesterday, and haven't had a chance to play around with it yet.

It's probably running custom firmware from Dark Alex and the M33 crew. Check http://www.psp-hacks.com/
and http://psp-haxors.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=22 for help.

There are a number of emulators you can run, naturally you can play games off your memory card.  There is a version of Mame I have on mine and also SNES.  Its pretty cool to show off, how usefull in the overall scheme of life is questionable.  I guess if you had a modded slim and a big memory card it would be a pretty cool way to take movies and stuff on the road, airplane, commute..  Though it doesnt really need to be modded for that.  Its a cool piece of equipment and enjoy the heck out of Ridge Racer on mine.

Mine is a slim, and I've currently got a 4 gig card in it.  Still learning how to use the custom firmware, thanks to Somunny.  I like it, plus it was a gift, which makes it that much better!  ;)

Haruman,

A couple of things I would recommend getting:

Screen protector:  If you don't already have one, this ebay seller has a top notch product.  I've bought several different hand held screen protectors and they all go on perfectly.  No wrinkles or bubbles.

A higher capacity battery (Sony brand) and the extended battery cover.  It's nice having that extra battery life and when you're playing emu's, you'll need it.  I've seen the higher capacity batteries for the fat PSP on closeout at places like TRU and Target.

Both those sound like good ideas...  I handed the PSP to my wife the other night and what does she do?  Put her thumb right in the middle of the screen...   ::)

An extra capacity battery would be nice, too.
