Novacade: Pretty much complete
« on: March 24, 2008, 02:17:47 am »
Well, after a lot of work it's pretty much complete. Despite it's many flaws if you look close enough, I'm pretty damn proud of it, considering my near-zero woodworking and electrical skills.

No, I'm going to move it upstairs and take some better pics. Thanks for the kind words :) I'm very proud!

nice. the cab has a very 'comfortable' shape to it. looks like it would play really well. did you design it? what are its basic bits? monitor, pc etc?

Nice work!  I'm very impressed that you hooked up lighted buttons with "near-zero electrical skills" - I wouldn't even know where to begin.  You should definitely be proud!

Thank god for the LED sets from GroovyGameGear - LEDs with wiring included. I did learn to strip and crimp wire, glad I didn't have to solder...

I designed it in SketchUp, which I was impressed with. You can see the original design here:

The PC is a $300 HP refurb I got from Fry's. Pentium D 950 or something similar... 2gb RAM. I did put in an ATI X1950XT videocard, which I wanted for the component out.
For the TV all I wanted was component and a decent size. Got a 27" off Craigslist. Looks a bit fuzzy but works great in game.

Thanks!
I originally had large, detailed plans for the artwork, but they were going to be very expensive or very difficult to pull off and still look good. So I went with simple stickons from ThinkGeek.

Cheap, removable if you change your mind, and they still look decent.
