help with monitor - faulty?!?
« on: March 22, 2008, 02:32:43 pm »
Hi
The monitor works for a few minutes then goes like video shown!

is the monitor faulty or could it be a loose connection?

Any help appreciated.

looks like it losing sync,is this pc based system or jamma cab?
it could be something as simple as a dry solder joint on the input plug or it could be more complex, you need to give some more info on the setup and the monitor model/make

most likely problem is dry solder joint on the chassis, whats happens when you tap the side of the cab?

schematic @ www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schemview.php?id=2245

if 130v reg is holding steady , check c34,35, c16,20, 22.
and pending sync polarity, check c17,18,19

a can of freeze spray can help locate those pesky thermal intermittents  ;)

ok that made no sense to me!!

new try... I turned it on this morning... worked for like 3 minutes then started again... tapped the side of the cabinet 'nothing happen' so opened the back compartment up and gave the the screen a small push to the left and its been running fine for the last 10 minutes!!
so this means.....

you either have a bad solder joint on the chassis or a bad connection on the video input,if i remember correctly the video signal goes to an inverter board first which is mounted to the left of the chassis
just make sure all the plugs are home
next step is to find someone with a bit of soldering/electronics experience to check the monitor chassis

ok..well ill take some pictures of the monitor if that helps?

in terms of it being a bad solder joint... is it the matter of looking for a joint thats loose/broke and then re-soldering it?

i don't need to see a photo,i worked on hundreds of these monitor type
start be locating the sync wire, you will see a green plug with 5 or 6 wires coloured red/green/blue/black/white and possibly yellow
the white and yellow are sync wires, try wiggling the wire at the plug of the inverter board and the main chassis video plug to see if it affects the picture
as for bad solder joints you would need to have experience to know what you're looking for, don't attempt this if you are not familiar with monitors as you could get a nasty shock or damage the chassis-get a pro in
