Yeah that's a cool one. A while back Topshop Automaten in Beverwijk had a sitdown Outrun. Wasn't even that expensive, but that's is even bigger and heavier (IIRC 450kg)

Was that the hydraulic version? I used to love that game. It's a pity Out Run II isn't hydraulic (at least the ones that I've seen).

Yes, it was the hydraulic version.

Apparently their site is gone now, but in the wayback archive there was still a picture of it. They wanted 1150 euro for it.

Mmmmmm, just thought of the ultimate BYOAC hack:

Put a SW cockpit on that hydraulic system.

Would need some control signals of course but that should be possible.

I wonder how the control of the hydraulics work. It seems to simply follow the joystick ?

The hydraulics on this Space Harrier don't really make no sense do they? I don't think this game lends itself to hydraulics anyway. You need a racing game for this type of hydraulics. The guy you control basically goes up, down left and right. It makes shallow turns left and right if you keep going to the sides, but the up and down movement is limited. No sense for a negative g-force simulation if you guy goes up. That would feel like you are "braking".

In a real simulator the hydraulics would move you in the opposite direction of the stick (left and right at least) Turn right and you should feel a force pulling you to the left.

The game moves way too fast for the hydraulics to keep up too.

It's still cool though  8)

I always loved that game and my kid loves it too. I think it's one of the first games he was able to play. The game consists of wildy moving around and mashing the fire button anyway.

Yup. And that last line exactly explains why I got bored with it very soon in the arcades.
The sound and graphics were stunning though, for those days...

Indeed the hydraulics can's handle the fast movement on the game.
What you say about driving games and moving to the other direction you steer it.....f.i. Daytona2 does a nice job on that...

Star Wars in an R360 would be even better, chasing the tie fighter would be cool ;D

Actually,  FYI,  these sega cabs do not use Hydraulics.   They actually are powered entirely by
huge electric motors.

Ive played and Love the motion Outrun..  however, its cab size wont fit thru most doors.

Also, Ive played a motion  Space Harrier... and although Im not too big of a fan of that
game....  that motion really made it awesome fun :)   I think that particular cab also had
a huge 27"+  monitor on it.   That cab Really made you feel like you were flying!

Yes, but the problem is that SW doesn't go around 360 degrees......they limited that. The hardware is easily capable of doing it though:

//Quote//
The 3D math that Star Wars was capable of performing allowed any object (and the observer) to be in any orientation. However, it was decided that players might be confused by being approached by an upside-down TIE Fighter, so they were forced to be right-side up most of the time.
