Dotronix dsv25c monitor
« on: March 20, 2008, 02:00:55 pm »
Hi,

The company next door to ours has a video wall they are getting rid of. Probably half of the tubes are brown but there is at least 4 or 5 that look pretty good. They have a DB-9 connector in the back and can be driven by an external rack mounted board that takes composite (yuck) and "s-vhs" which seems to be similar to S-video (2 separate video streams).

So I am curious...is this a monitor that I can just plug a vga cable into and go or do I have to hack a vga to a db-9? Im guessing that its a 640 by 480 monitor but I could be wrong. The owner of the company is out for a couple of days so I wont be able to talk to him until next week.

Thanks
Bill

That's how I got mine.  A local ebay auction had the whole package - image processor and 9 monitors - for $200.

How much are they asking?  I ended up selling just the processor on ebay for $200, so anything around that would be a good deal.

You will have to hack a vga cable.  You'll also have to use arcadeos or an arcadevga card.

I have no idea what he will ask but it wont be much. Im thinking around 20-25 per monitor. Quite a few have bad tubes ie brown but there are a handful of good ones. I was thinking of grabbing one and a spare. I was planning on hacking the vga cable to a db9 cable and then using powerstrip or soft15khz.

Did you use any of your monitors in your cabs yet? How did you mount them? I definitely cant fit the whole enclosure in so I will be pulling the tube and chasis out

Cheers,
Bill

The manual for that monitor is on the GGG site under the video card/monitor section in PDF format.

I haven't got around to using it yet.  I might list a few on craigslist and see if anyone wants one.  Mame looks so nice on these I don't have the heart to toss them.

That's a bummer you have to remove the tube.  I really like the fact that they are enclosed - easier to handle.

BASS!

  • Just have fun.

Hey this is an old post but very relevant to something I'm working on at the moment. I have a dnrIV  which looks the same in all the specs as the ones you guys have. The only issue with the one I picked up is that the chassis that it has only accepts coax and composite video. I would love to get vga up and going on this monitor but am unable to find anyone who has these chassis that aren't already blown up. I was wondering if you either would like to part with the chassis off one that has a bad crt or something of the like.

If not, any information on a compatible chassis for this crt would be extremely appreciated.

Specs on mine

Rca Picture tube model: a68adt25x02
Serial number d-scjt5120
9 pin neck
Vertical impedance 5.4ohm
Serial number on chasis 5050005598
