Red tint? What is wrong?
« on: March 19, 2008, 07:10:18 pm »
I have another TV here that isn't too old. it is a RCA 27F400T.

One day when it was powered on, everything had a red tinge to it. The picture also seems to be a lot darker. I checked the color settings and they are all set at default level and the problem can not be fixed by adjusting the settings. Any ideas as to what is wrong and how I may go about fixing it?

if its a more modern digital t.v then one of the gain settings is too high(extended menu to access this),if its older analogue then you could be looking at bad solder joint/leaky colour drive transistor/leaky electrolitic capacitor or at worst a tube gun problem

nowadays , RCA seems to mean "Really Crappy Apparatus"  . Thomson has sullied the name !!

if less than 1 yr old , will be under part warranty . labor might only be 90 dys ?
havn't been an asc for rca since '04.  so,  not sure if it has changed  ( so much has ) .
anyway , u should still have 2 yrs on the crt.

** **opening the cabinet WILL void the warranty ** **

may be just a loose connection or component failure in red drive/output.
possible corrupted eeprom data ( which i doubt)

improper settings CAN result in a dead set.
PM if u really want the service menu entry proceedure.

It's actually my brother's TV. I think it started happening a couple days after he moved to a new apartment, so I'm thinking it is something physical and nothing I can do with the settings.

I did call technical support, but they were not very good in my opinion because they didn't even take me through the reset procedure. They said that it could be taken to one of their repair facilities under warranty. However there is a little problem with that. We can't find the receipt for the TV, which is apparently needed. My brother said he had it in his safe, but it seems to have vanished. So we are trying to figure out what to do with it. The TV isn't even a half a year old.

if the warranty registration card has been sent , they "should" have it on file.
thomson used to be decent on warranty. pd claims fairly quickly too. they just weren't so swift on parts ......
