My New TV, What Do You Think?
« on: March 17, 2008, 01:42:32 pm »
It's finally here! I just picked up my new used TV for my cab. It took a lot of searching to find one that had what I was looking for. However, my knowledge on TVs is limited, so I thought I'd ask you guys what you think.

Also wile I was in town, I picked up some new Monster Cable component cable for it. I know a lot of people keep telling me that Monster Cable isn't worth it, and some say it is. I don't know that for sure either, but I picked up this cable new for $30, when it regularly sells for $210.......so I kinda think it was worth it.

TV is a JVC AV-27D200

Features:

    *  27" Diagonal Full Square Dark Tinted Picture Tube
    * Digital Comb Filter
    * BBE High Definition Audio
    * Hyper Scan
    * New Super Command Universal Remote Control
    * 700 Lines Horizontal Resolution
    * AV Compu Link EX
    * 15 Color Icon-based Super Command OSD
    * English, French and Spanish Menus
    * MTS Stereo w/dbx and SAP
    * Hyper Surround Sound
    * TV Speakers On/Off in Menu
    * Front Firing, Side Speakers
    * Return+
    * Plug In Menu
    * Theater Status
    * Multi-function Timer
    * Sleep Timer
    * Closed Captions w/Text
    * Channel Guard
    * Black Level Expansion
    * Apacon
    * V-Chip

And the pictures!

I purchased an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 256MB AGP from zelony. Hopefully it wont take too long to get here in the mail so I can try it out. Also in the mail is the DVI to component adapter I purchased.

seems to be a reliable chassis .   so far, only serviced a broken rf jack in the 32"version
as for monster cables , the following link was posted in the"off topic" area of the technician forum at www.wa6ati.com.

Dude, if someone were to pay $210 for a cable to a mass market display like that one, it better come with an attractive redhead and some beer.

I've got that same TV here in my cab (decased, mind you).  Its awesome.

I've also had the 32" model of the same thing in my living room for the past eight years.  Replaced it last month with a 52" LCD that does 1080p; the old 32" JVC started displaying blobs of colour all over the screen and it got worse over the last few months.  My wife got fed up with it last month and replaced it.

The 27" that you've got there, though, is a schweet TV.  I've got mine hooked up right now on S-video and am pleased with the results, but I'm waiting for my ATI drivers to catch up and let me run component out to it. :)

Did you remove it from the case?
