PC (vga) to TV (component)?
« on: March 12, 2008, 10:29:22 am »
What's the easiest way to connect my pc to the component input on my tv?  Do you get a vga to component converter?  Or will I need a certain graphics card to do it?

Nice reply Ummon  ::)

Try an ATI card, seems to give the best pic IMHO. And maybe use one of these:

Never tried going component, always been satisfied with composite. I guess its alot better tho.

This cable will not display a picture if used to connect a computer to a TV or any device to a computer monitor.

That's also the reason why I'm asking.  I keep on reading that these don't work.  I have a Radeon 7000 that I was thinking of using.

Search for "ATI DVI Component".  There is an adapter you need that works with certain ATI cards.  I don't think it works with the 7000 series cards, so you will most likely need a new graphics card as well.

Why are those adapters so expensive?  All the ones I find are around $100.  Is that correct or am I looking for the wrong thing?  And then I still need to buy a specific ATI card as well?

The tv I bought only has composite and component, should've looked for one with svideo.  Do you maybe get something like svideo to component that's cheaper?

Damn, this is really getting expensive now.   :'(

Where on earth are you looking that they are $100?  Here's one for $18.95:

There are A LOT of threads - or a thread with a lot of posts - on this. I think he only googled? Also, Wiki (vs the wiki) has A LOT of information on cards. As well, google video card comparison and click the first link. And TOK just recently pointed me in the right direction for a cheap adapter.
