amplifone vector adjustment?
« on: March 09, 2008, 04:09:05 pm »
I have a 19" amplifone monitor in my starwars upright cab. After working on it and the boardset I got the game working again however now I get a bright red dot in the center of the screen and thin red lines out to where ever red is being drawn. It appears like the red vector is not completely turning off. Is there an adjustment for this? How?

Does the intensity of the red vary from where line is supposed to be drawn and the line connecting the vectors?   From your description it sounds like it does.   If so, start by turning down the brightness control on the HV board just a tad.

9 times out of 10 that's all it is.  If that doesn't fix it, either you have a red "Z" channel issue which usually turns out to be a connection problem/bad solder joint,  OR the red bias/gain pots on the deflection board have been tampered with (usually these don't ever need to be tinkered with)

Thanks, the brightness adjustment made the difference.

Well, if it would only be the brightness you would have seen all the colors (white) re-trace lines.

Are all colors the same intensity now ? You can check this best with one of the test screens...(depending on what game you are running on it).

Theoretically that's true, but variations in electron gun production and over the years of use, the guns in any given tube don't track *exactly* the same.

Did not go for "perfect" settings with test screen. But the screen looks great and white is white so colors must be close to the correct mix.
