ferrari help needed

today i saw a dude park his ferrari behind a hotel. it was a 60's model. i was thinking 250 gt but googling tells me this model is a bit bigger (and not as rare i imagine!). it doesnt seem to be the 330 gt. any ideas what model it might be? it was front engined, and had a bit of a spoiler on the back. v12 naturally (i think most of their front engined cars were). is there a really good site i can go to that lists the models with pics from beginning to end? so i can scroll through and pick it out- police line-up style? wiki didnt seem to help.

i knew i should have asked the driver while i had a chance. but i get all shy 

man, this city isnt the biggest in australia but there sure are some discerning car owners here who actually drive them. a month or so back in nearly the same place was parked an immaculate aston martin db5 (",)

It could also just be a fake. There are a ton of different supercar bodykits that go on various other chassis.

ah, so if i spell it wrong, ill get results 

oh, and it definitely wasnt a replica. that sharp v12 note is inmistakable. much revvier than the jaguar v12, which is what im guessing a good replica might be based on...also, had a good look at it. if it was a replica, they probably spent as much as buying the real deal!

ah, found your site. i didnt even think of looking for models. the only other problem i guess is that sometimes the same model (talking full sized now) would have different bodies by different builders- pinin farina, bertone etc...

Eh, most replicas are usually based around cheapo cars, not expensive ones like Jaguars. Most common donor cars for kit cars are VW Beetles, Pontiac Fiero's, Ford Pinto's and Chrysler Lebarons (although I think they only Lebaron kit turns it into a late model Mercedes clone).

I only mentioned it because there are a lot more kit cars running around out there masquerading as supercars than there are actual supercars.

EEEk, a HARDTOP? If I was going to buy anything as insane as a Ferrari then it would be a convertible at least. Although I couldn't imagine parking a Ferrari outside my low rent apartments, it is bad enough that I have a Mercedes convertible out there.

A little while after I got it the guy who used to own the place dropped by and told me that in 15 years of owning that place he never had a tenant with a Mercedes, but he used to have one just like it.

Actually I don't think anyone has ever told me to drive only a certain amount of kilometers during a testdrive. They sure have never sat with me in the car. Guess I could drive across the whole country too. All 200km of it

hehe. ive done two sneaky test drives in my time, but not quite THAT sneaky! one was a 4wd that a friend and i took out into the bush for a few hours before we took it back. the other was a buell motorcycle. didnt ride it all that long, but got it to 200km/h down a back road (",)

paige, generally soft tops are a lot slower than hardtops when it comes to those sorts of cars. to me its not a grand tourer if it doesnt have a roof! not that im ever going to be able to afford either...

i saw that when i was trying to find my ferrari. i cant believe a blind man would mistake a  shoddy pontiac fiero chop job for a ferrari, let alone a guy with eyes...

(although the one in your article isnt TOO bad. but being a 308, it would probably be cheaper to just buy the real deal...)

hehe. vws is vws. ferraris is ferraris. i like em both for different reasons. my dub i love the comforting dack dack sound that needs no instruments to tell me everything is alright. the engine sound tells the story (incidentally enzo once said thats why ferraris didnt come with stereos- the engine supplies the music!) it has a fuel gauge and a speedo. he gets me there, he gets me back, cheaply. i save money. and i really do like the look of v dubs.

an older model ferrari on the other hand. the body shapes are utter art. the engines- well, theres nothing quite like the sound of a 3 litre v12 being fed by six carbies! the sound is le mans, exotic. its such a sharp, fast sound because each piston is only 500cc or so. a lot less inertia than a big block v8. the engines too are quite low in profile because of this, allowing a lower bonnet line than could had with other types of engines. one of my other favourite cars is the mercedes gull wing. to get the low bonnet line, they had to tilt the straight 6 engine over a lot.

when you try and cross the two (as paige mentioned people do) its wrong for every reason...

The gullwing SL is pretty awesome, although I would personally prefer to have the convertible version of that body style as opposed to the actual 300 SL Gullwing, the price difference between the two can buy a house AND a Ferrari and still have some money left over.

Couldn't have said it any better myself.  I LOVE old Ferraris.......someday, I will own one.
