my day at work today
« on: February 27, 2008, 06:31:53 pm »
i was working at an hotel today in the glorious town of llanelli in south wales. we were setting up lights and pa etc for a conference tomorrow. as is usual to happen we had to wait around for hours til we could start so we hit the bar.
in another room they were holding interviews for a Homebase diy store, which is opening soon.
to describe the applicants as white trash might seem snobbish, but entirely accurate.
the smartest dress any had on was tracksuit bottoms and trainers, for an interview. most ordered a pint or two at the bar whilst waiting and best of all one guy took his pint into the interview with him, i ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- you not.

I worked full time in a hotel through college.  You see groups of all kinds and you see the truth in the stereo types.

You get enough of any type together you'll see the worst, and the worst is what you remember.  That's where I learned to hate people, all races and religions.  Except little people.  They destroyed the hotel and were asked to never return, but they were a blast to work with.

Heh, reminds me of the movie Under the Rainbow where they had all of the munchkins from Wizard of Oz staying in one hotel and they destroyed the place.

What do you expect?  I just left the UK 3 months ago as I was tired of  :censored: the kids get away with.  The yobbish behaviour, the corrupt councils, the dog mess and rubbish on the streets,  the lies, the immigrants (and I mean that in the context of remembering Britain in the early 80's) and the blatant ignorance.  The bad weather.

And you post that as it was some shocking news?   :P

Where have you been?  Hiding under a rock?  Do they have rocks in Wales?

Living in the USA is a breath of fresh air, and I feel sorry for you polaris - still having to breathe all of what I just described day in and out.  And it's warm and sunny here nearly everyday... :laugh2:

I would be more descriptive, but there might be ladies reading and its depressing.  Its such a shame too, and you guys who live in Wales in particular,  just laugh.  Unbelievable.

Can't blame you I guess.

Wow, that's a pretty nasty post Ark ...

I live it the UK and it sounds like you've had it pretty rough.

I think that most people can relate to Polaris post wherever they are (in the world).

Also, can I just quote you:

.... the immigrants ....

This the most contradictory thing you said -- this is what you are in the US! Seems pretty silly to say that.

Anyway, enjoy the US -- my brother-in-law is American, and he's a great guy.

Well then you are gonna have to explain the racist part because it is hidden to me. He said he hated "the influx of immigrants". I wouldn't exactly call that racist. I see no edit markings at the bottom of his post, so there hasn't been anything vulgar removed.

Immigrants are automatically assumed to be of races other than his own?

Is he not allowed to be xenophobic or racist?  Has he called anyone racist slurs?    Is his freedom of opinion not as important as yours?

All I see is a guy bitching about society in general. Even here in the good ol' U.S. we have corrupt councils, dogs pooping in yards, kids running rampant, and of course, we call "yobbish behavior" delinquency here.

The only thing even alluding to racism is his comment of "the immigrants". I hardly think that is racist. Our country right now has a SERIOUS problem with illegal immigration from Mexico. Am I racist for pointing out we have an immigration problem, or by saying I am frustrated with it? Of course not.

I agree with you shardian about society being dysfunctional wherever you go, and I don't want to get into a P&R type conversation here, but the venom that was used in the post toward Polaris seemed to come from no where.

I've only been a member here for a few months, so I'm assuming there is 'history' that I may have missed. Whatever the case, I think that ChadTower is getting the wrong end of the stick.

This was a very friendly post about someone's day at work, and I think his comments were un-called for. He is absolutely entitled to his opinion, but it doesn't mean we have to like it.

Cheers guys

So you missed the racial slur in the original post?

The actual racial slur count - polaris 1, ark_ader 0.

Keep in mind I am not a fan of ark_ader.  I just called him a dillhole in another thread.  ark_ader wasn't the one in this thread making racist comments, though.  polaris is that person.

Unless he's talking about the non-white people in Britain. So ark_ader, what did you mean by immigrant and early 80's exactly??

Actually, I wasn't offended, and I don't think anyone really was.  This is very clear - you used a racial slur, knowing what it meant, and then called someone else a racist ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?---.

Next time you call someone a racist ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?--- make sure you haven't used a racial slur in the same thread.  It ain't rocket science.   :laugh2:

Can we drop the word "racist" and replace it with the much more appropriate word, "stereotypical".

And I knew of Wales because I had a huge crush on Catherine Zeta Jones back a few years ago. Thank you Michael Douglas for shattering my fantasy.

White trash is most definitely a racist term.  It just happens to be socially acceptable because it's a white one.

Knee jerk reaction I see.  A typical political statement. Ask someone who was around 25 years ago and ask them if I'm wrong.  Keep knocking the population Polaris.  Are you from Wales originally?  My family goes back to the 1400s we have a Welsh coat of arms.  I'm dual National too American/British so you can call me some more names now.

I was born in Whittier, Southern California and most of my friends are Mexican, and African American. If I was a racist I'm sure I would be dead by now.  ;D

I used the term white trash as its a us based forum and you might not have understood if I said chav.

You used a term to describe your disgust at the way your clan behaved at a employment conference.  You don't see the despair or the hopelessness of modern Britan?  I cannot call it United Kingdom any more more like the EU.  Polaris has the view that it is ok to slam poor (maybe) uneducated "working class"  people as white trash.  Chav.  Please don't insult us too Polaris.

Today even with the smoking ban you see people smoking in shop doors, drinking cans on the streets, getting drunk repeatedly and causing horrific injuries like glassing girls or raping them.  Don't believe me?  Cruise bbc.co.uk and have a look.  Polaris and I know the truth.

i think the sheep shagging thing was the racist comment, where i am from in kent the definition of a leisure centre is a sheep tied to a lamp post :P

Anyone can nail a sheep.  Does that have a specific race tied to it where you are?

Man I know a lot more funnier Welsh gags, but my guess Polaris knows them all.  Funny thing is that I lived in Lancashire and that is real close to Wales and we had a lot of sheep but not as many gags on them.  :laugh2:

Can we drop the word "racist" and replace it with the much more appropriate word, "stereotypical".

White trash is most definitely a racist term.  It just happens to be socially acceptable because it's a white one.

If I was being racist I would use lots of words to describe it.  Here is the rub though.  Integration was forced on all British subjects.  Immigrants took our jobs, used the medical system that British people pay for out of our wages, (a few) commit terrible crimes,  then leave to their own EU country with their spoils.  While the medical system is over run, people die without having surgery, pills or like in the last year have their doctors commit terrorist activities.  We remember that eh?

I worked in the NHS Polaris.  I worked with your "white trash"  I also worked with the Samaritans helping people with their drug addiction because of their lack of hope.  I'm sorry if it makes me angry, but you would too if you were in the same boat.  You opened the door and I'm showing people around.

I'm disgusted with how the whole immigration affair was run, thus my comment and I bet any money, that others feel the same way as I do.  Thus my comment about immigrants.  We all have our share of good and bad, its on the news every night that shows the bad.  Check out the bbc web site about human sex traffickers:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/5343036.stm

I saw a video of a  :censored: selling a woman as a slave and the guy was not worried about any laws or scruples.  The immigration service had no records on the paedophiles, rapists and other criminals from the EU states.  It was widely publicised.  And you attack me Polaris?

I can go on and on.  So Polaris can you shed on some light that I'm lying and make me the monster that you think I am, or are you going to post some other  :censored: that we can relate to and then fall into your trap.

Everything I have posted is the truth Polaris, please fire away and tell us otherwise.  The American population still holds Britian as a candyland or Tea with the Queen.  Quaint.   :laugh2:

It takes guts to tell them otherwise...no sorry scrap that.  It takes <insert your desciption here> to tell them otherwise.

Honestly, I think the term 'racism' is really thrown around too frequently these days.  You really can't understand what racism truly is until you've hung around with Asian individuals who were alive during WWII, or African-American folk who were around in the 1960's and earlier.  What many people call "racism" and "racist" today is nothing compared to what they have gone through.

It would be more appropriate to call the terms being thrown around in this thread as "ignorant" terms and not "racist" terms.  They are words that are being used due to ignorance and not hatred and contempt.  Racist terms are thrown about when the person saying them knows it will cause harm and hurt in the people they direct it at.

Sadly, it's just gotten to the point now where when something is said that's not politically correct, it is deemed racist whether or not it really is.   :'(

The one who respects the other to the point that he doesn't use deflamatory remarks, because he has an opinion.  Just a Californian who looks outside the arcade cabinet box.  Just PM me an apology and I'll be happy - cant see you grovelling here - it would be too upsetting.  ;D

Funny, you weren't treating the guy in that thread or his project with much respect.  That's why you got called a dillhole.

I was thinking out side the box again and making a point that sounded to you like an attack.  Glad you take peoples writing skills like that.  The real reason why we have smilies in our posts - or soon we would not be able to write anything on the web as the recipient take it the wrong way.

I was upset that he would change something I felt was not necessary until I found out later that his change was most beneficial to the my idea of Space Ace.  Did I not congratulate him on his efforts?  Did I call him a dillhole?  No.  Its another Chadtower "I'm the policeman" point of view which we have to learn to get used to.  Learn to think outside the arcade box Chadtower.  You can do it.

To me and to him.  Or did you ignore his response?

Either way, no apology deserved or forthcoming.  I won't call you a dillhole in this thread.  Someone has already covered the appropriate message to you.  No need to step on their toes.

Ignorance is something you can never run away from or hide.  It eventually creeps up on you when you least expect it.  When your face to face with it, you will know how horrible it is.   -Ark_ader

On the other hand, dillholiness is BAM all up in ya grill.

Like the dillholiness of quoting oneself to others in that manner.

Now look what you made me do.  I had to get all rowdy and call you a dillhole.

Being ignorant is not so much a shame as being unwilling to learn.     -Benjamin Franklin

The highest form of ignorance is when you reject something you don't know anything about.

Ignorance is preferable to error; and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing, than he who believes what is wrong.                                                              -Thomas Jefferson

I think my offering is more to the point.

Keep running Chadtower,  ignorance is losing its grasp on you.   :laugh2:

That is your problem.  You would place yourself in company such as those people.  That is not your place to do - if no one else does it you don't belong there.

Anyone here willing to place this guy amongst those men?
