S video not working...
« on: February 26, 2008, 03:03:51 pm »
I have a 27", decased TV in my cab. After a long period of sitting, I fired up the cab and noticed I was getting the "unusable signal" message. Since my computer was hooked up via S video I decided to try composite, which works. The weird thing is, not only do I get a picture on the channel designated for composite, I also get a black and white picture on the channel designated for S video. I have no idea about monitors, but if I had to assume, I would say the S video connections somehow got crossed with the composite connections. Does anyone have any idea what could be going on?

Quick longshot:

Did something fall on the chassis and is shorting the inputs?

That was one of the first things I checked, no visible shorts. Also FYI when I switched from S video to composite, I simply used a converter on the TV end, so I am still using the S video out on my graphics card. Which rules out graphics card issues.

Yeah, I did all of the basic common sense trouble shooting: checked for shorts, new S video cable, hooked the dvd player to the tv
(no good), tried different channels(no good) and finally converted from s video to composite on the tv end. I would just leave it the way it is but the image is blurry with composite and I dont remember having that issue with S video. I guess it could be worse, originally I converted from s video to coax using an RF modulator, man that picture was terrible.

Okay, I noticed there was a green ribbon cable that was unhooked. The cable runs from the input pcb (board that has all the input jacks on it). I looked all over the main board and it seems there is only one other place that this cable can plug into. I plugged it in and tried to turn on the TV, nothing, TV will not power up. I removed the cable and checked it for continuity, checks ok. Keep in mind that the TV is decased and it is possible that the cable could have been attached to something I removed, but it is unlikely because I think I would remember removing such a component.

Any ideas??? I will see if I can take some pictures of what I am talking about.
