I extracted all the MAME chds from my hard drives that came with my arcade PCBs, and have found that mame will only recognize the Killer Instinct 2 CHD. I do not have kinst2.chd in a separate folder, and it runs great (99.5 fps!), but none other works. I just get the chd not found error with all such as Area 51 and Carnevil. I have tried doing separate folders as per the MAME faq, but that does nothing.

Make sure the .chd folder is named correctly.  The CHD folders should be in the rom directory.  Let me know what game you are trying to run and I can take a screenshot of that directory for you so that you can match it up.

I tried putting the carnevil chd in a folder within the roms folder named "carnevil" mame wont recognize the chd within the folder, but it finds the rom that goes along with the chd.

Well, I obtained kinst from another source, and it works fine, so I guess I must have bad versions of ALL of the other CHDS...

Here's how my directory structure looks.  (Attached below)

By the way for Killer Instict 1 & 2, there are two hard drive images out there.  One is optimized for MAME (.CHD) and the the other is "normal" and works with the arcade emulator U64 which is a dedicated Killer Instinct Emulator (.IMG)

If you have it running now in MAME you probably have the CHD version and you're all set.
