Here are some pictures of my current project - Gaja Black!



I had an old PC and 15" flatscreen doing nothing and thought I'd put it to use.

The PC is now just the motherboard, hard drive and PSU and is mounted on the back of the stripped monitor chassis. The cabinet is made of MDF with a one piece curved perspex front painted on the inside.



The buttons are from Ultimarc as is the IPAC, the joystick is an old Happs I had laying around. There are three admin buttons on the top and an illuminated power button.





There are speakers on both side and a vent for the PSU fan on one side.



The screen displays well thorugh the perspex but I have currently got a bit of an intermittent flicker that I'm yet to get to the bottom of.

The unit is 350mm wide and evrything inside is a snug fit.

The dimensions are 350mm (14 inches) wide and deep and 370mm (14.5 inches) tall. I made it as small as I could to get the hardware in. Width and height wise it couldn't be much smaller because of the screen, it could have been less deep if I'd used a mini motherboard and power supply but I wanted to use what I had.

Hardware wise;

Standard size mother board and processor, P2 I think. I only really play classics so it's up to the job.

Standard size PSU stripped out of the same PC.

Dell 15 inch monitor

Happ 8 way joystick

Ultimarc control panel buttons

Maplins admin buttons

Gaja was a name my wife came up with when I started build panels and cabinets in 2001. It combines both of our names - Gary & Jane ahhh! We are very much a family that plays (classic arcade games) together!

Cool. Are you running a FE or Mame32 or what?

It's smaller than my Galaga cabinet which is 20" tall.

Seriously - you need to figure out a way to vent that machine. Once the back is on, it'll get way too hot in there. Here is a shot of the back of my Galaga cabinet. You can see I'm using a fan thats blowing air out of the top of the case and I have some inlet holes on the bottom.

I currently just run MAME32.

I run ArcadeFX on my full size machine which I think is great. Problem is that it no longer seems to exist anywhere and was only setup for a couple of Mame releases. It's also a bit fancy for this cab. I'll probably go with something that just shows the name of the game and is really simple to set up. I don't really know what though. I'm very out of date with front ends.

I'm going to cut some slots in the rear panel to try and aid cooling as one side in particular does get pretty warm after extended use. I guess this maybe causing the intermittent screen flicker after all. A fan might be good I guess powered from one of the spare 4 pin plugs from the PSU, is that what powers the fan on the back of the mini Galaga? (which is sweet BTW). Also, what is the origin of the fan?

It's a 120mm fan for computers. I bought the quietest one I could find and I run it on 5volts instead of 12.
