DIY Bezel options?
« on: February 15, 2008, 10:29:38 pm »
So I checked out the bezel bit on arcadecontrols.com...  http://arcadecontrols.com/arcade_monitors.shtml#Bezel

I also took a quick look at the options available at Happ controls: http://happcontrols.com/monitors/49010500.htm

I plan to use a horizontal 20" TV with a short neck that will fit in my 24" Taito cab.  I'm replacing what used to be a 19" vert setup, so the bezel I got with it (had no monitor) won't work as it's not wide enough.  Also, I verified the inner measurements on the Happ 19" bezels will lose over 1" width and 1" height from the TV...  (25" would be too big)

The tip at arcadecontrols in which the guy cut holes in 5 increasing diameter pieces of foamcore and then using black electricians tape sounds a bit more hack than I'd like, though the 3d effect sounds like what I want.  I have seen Aarghcade in person too (guy who simply painted the frame of the back of his monitor plexi black)... Looks good but no depth to it...

What other DIY options have people used for bezel creation?  Can't bear to leave the TV bezel showing or it sorta ruins the effect, you know?

Well after considering the options above, I think I'm going to dump still more money towards the fine folks at MameMarquees.com.  I've used them before for marquees and CP overlays but didn't realize they did Bezels until just now...  Seems far classier (and less destructive) than just painting the back of the glass black.

this from them:

Q. What are your bezel printed on?
A. The Bezels are printed on tough polypropylene (banner material)  and then laminated with a luster laminate. It is made to be sandwiched between plexi, or mounted  behind the glass using posterboard behind it to support it.  If requested, we can also print them on Adhesive vinyl to be mounted to the front of the glass. All Bezels are shipped with the center intact and need to be cut out.  We have had issues with bezel damaging in shipment if the center is cut out.
