MAME plus plus question
« on: February 14, 2008, 03:45:14 pm »
For those who work with MAME what emulators (plug-in?) does MAME + plus have? From what I have been able to find on the net via Google it appears that it plays a wide range of ROMs. I think that it will fit my needs as I have all types of ROMs and looking for one common emulator to run them.  I have NEO-GEO, CPS1, CPS2 and even some that I currently run under Daphne.

Thanks

Lilwolf has written an application, called MultiMAME which takes a bunch of emulators and some configuration files and appears to frontends and users as a single emulator. Search the forums for MultiMAME and you will find it.

There is an application called MAME plus plus which IMO you should stay away from. The MAMEdevs hate this particular MAME derivative because it uses closed-source plugins for network play, which could potentially compromise your system.

Old, but not obsolete.

Cakemeister thanks for the reply.

I was not aware of the network play issues with MAME plus plus.  I guess I passed over those while searching for information on it.  I wonder if you can still use it but disable the network connection.  I was going to load it on a non-networked test machine later today just to take it for a test drive.

I checked out MultiMAME and while it looks like it will work I am looking more for something that more of a user (newbie) GUI friendly interface.  I was also going to try MAMEWah and EMULoader on my test machine to see how I like it.  Do you know of any issues with these two products I would really appreciate hearing them.

Thank you.

Both of those frontends are robust and well supported by their authors, if a bit graphically limited.

For a more comprehensive list of current front ends, consult the wiki.
