DirecTV Video On Demand
« on: February 13, 2008, 09:17:40 am »
DirecTV recently rolled out VOD.  I heard that it was on its way, but I had no idea how they were going to pull it off with a satellite system.  Know how they did it?  Using your internet connection (better be broadband).  I just never considered that possibility -- IP TV, sort of.  So, I set it up yesterday -- plenty of options (free & pay), but man does it take a long time to download anything.  Granted my connection is DSL @ 2 Mbps, so of course that's a factor.

But, they did an excellent job of incorporating VOD into the current UI.  They have separated the video into channels which appear in your channel guide just like the rest of the satellite/over-the-air channels.

Also, it's only available to people with HD DVRs.

Anyone else try this out yet?  Opinions?

Oh well.  No VOD for me.
