Classic Retro Arcade Videogame BOOKS
« on: February 10, 2008, 06:19:40 am »

Hi!

I have seen the King of Kong movie (GREAT experience  )

And now i wonder if there is an archive or source for those "How to win at Pac Man" or "The Masters Guide for Donkey Kong" Books?

Perhaps somewhere are scanned versions of them?

Or has someone a digital version allready?

I speak about books like these.

There are some books and magazines over at ArcArc:

http://arcarc.xmission.com/Magazines%20and%20Books/

EDIT: I should mention that I own a copy of Supercade and really like it (it's pretty!). It isn't anything new and is a bunch of MAME screenshots, but some of the articles are interesting. I'll sometimes flip to a random page and play the game.

I got this book as a Christmas gift and absolutely love it. Great history of vintage console and arcade games.

I've been looking for some of these books as well after seeing the movie.  Interesting that a guy that can break a million on DK is still reading strategy guides.

They are quite expensive when you can find them on eBay or Amazon (used).  I'm going to try my local 1/2 Price Book store this weekend.

Hmmmm, I should check that out.  I have at least 2 or 3 of these in boxes somewhere.

but when I got something from the file you will have two sources - and vice versa

it will get better the more people download this file.

So how do u get this file on emule?

i have been connected 2 days straight.

And nothing has downloaded?

It's only a 18MB file.

Why does it take so long?

And what am i doing wrong here?

What do you mean mark as RELEASE?

when you got something of a file, you can assign an upload priority to it. this works just like the download priority in the "Transfers" screen (i.e. low - medium - high - auto)

the upload priority is in the "File" screen - when you select RELEASE your emule will privilege this file. so it will get spread faster

I actually have a copy of the Consumer's Guide on How to Win at Video Games and it shows patterns for Pac-Man and Donkey Kong and a few other games as well I believe. I'll make some scans this weekend if I have time.
I got this guide a while back at a thrift store for 10 cents. I know that's a lot of money, but it was worth it.  :P

I bought a pile of these old books too on some secondhand bookstores sites. The books were practically free, but shipping from the US to Europe was pretty expensive.

I remember I had one of these books when I was a kid, but I can't find it anywhere anymore. Must have lost it somewhere during moving.

I have a DK one (don't remember if it's that one) and a Dragon's Lair guide. Also had a Pac-man one back in the day, but I think I left it on the machine I was playing at the time(of course, this was over 20 years ago, probably closer to 25 years)

I picked up Supercade off Amazon.com after reading the posts here.  I really enjoyed this book.  CheffoJeffo is correct about the screenshots and lack of anything new but I've never seen all of this information put together in one book before.  I'm about the same age as the author and her chronological walk through the history of arcade games and console systems pretty much mirrored my own.  Thanks for the tip.
