More destroyed classics...
« on: May 18, 2003, 06:17:06 pm »
It turns out sega is gonna remake Altered Beast.

They'll probably do to it what they did with Tron2; keep the popular cast of base characters, make it all 3D and free-roamish and re-hash the music. In other words totally destroy the classic flavor of gameplay the original was popular for.

Ahh well, everythings going 3D now anyway. Mario did it. Sonic did it too. Makes sense in the evolution of things I guess, but I dont have to like it. Classics should stay classic I say.

Hey man, Sonic Adventure 2 was a GREAT game! I enjoy the 2D Sonics too, but I think it was AS good! Sonic Adventure 1 was alright, but the Adventure Stages sucked. Even so, I don't really like Super Mario Sunshine.

Super Mario 64 = the most groundbreaking videogame made in the last fifteen years.

It changed everything.

Great game, but I [I am probably the only one] because I am a Sonic fanatic prefer Sonic Adventure 2 to Super Mario 64.

I agree, video games aren't what they used to be.  Don't get me wrong, I own a PS2 and love it, but the thing that made the classics so great is the systems weren't capable of producing spectacular 3D graphics, so the emphasis had to be placed on addicting gameplay and replayability.  Todays games are great the first time through but offer little to no replayability, and there is such an emphasis on graphics and sound that I think the overall gameplay suffers.  This is just my opinion, others may not agree.

I'm not saying that the new spectacular 3D graphical extraveganzas aren't great in their own right, its just companies should keep their grubby mitts of the classics. Create new games; create new ideas for it. It's just a shame when they do it to a classic and royally botch it up. Whenever you see that game afterwards you always remember how they turned a great game into an alright one. It brings back memories of how things were better back in the good old days and how they ruined a perfectly good nostalgia trip...

Although on the other hand it is kind of a thrill to see all your favorite characters in 3D if the transformation was kind. There is always MK5. See Lucasarts is remaking Sam n Max in 3D. Woohoo!
