It's DOA.

I just got it home last night so I haven't had time to really get into it. I have power and the voltage seems good but no picture and the only sound I have is a hum coming from the speaker. The monitor has a faint glow in the neck so I'm hoping it works.

The cabinet is in very good condition with minimal scratches and the artwork is in better than average condition. It will need a new overlay though. So I think I'm in a good place with this one, just wish I had Level42's electronics skills to troubleshoot the PCB.

The wife is going out with friends tonight so I should have some time to dig into this and see what I can come up with.

That is so sweet.

So your going to mame this right?
Back in MY day we lived on the moon and we had to build a rocket ship from scratch to get to the Earth before we suffocated.

And paint over the artwork on the sides?  Chop off the CP and put something pretty big on there.  6 players with multiple trackballs.

If you don't want to spend a ton, just drop in a junker pc with dosmame and Galaga on it. Add an IPAC VE and you are golden without modding the cabinet in any way.

I was thinking of Mameing it, possibly painting it a nice shade of pink and putting some kind of white fur on it for T-molding. Then build the biggest airplane wing of a control panel that I can fit on it without tipping over.

And while I'm at it I think I will get rid of the monitor and bezel, put in a white 15" CRT and leave it at that, bezels are overrated anyway.

Wow this sounds like my first Mame cab, minus the pink paint and fur...

Seriously though, this thing is in great shape and I plan on restoring it and keeping everything original.

Sounds cool :D

So the monitor is dead and the pcb too ?

If you get the monitor working you could think about a 48 in 1.......or look for a working Galaga PCB, they are all over E-bay, or try KLOV forum....

For the CP you can just use a 2 * 4 and drill some holes in it. You don't have to paint it either. Make sure to use at least 50 buttons so that every function in mame has it's own button. And don't forget to screw some cupholders to the sides!
Wish list: Galaga, Pacman, Pooyan, Star Wars cockpit, Gauntlet, Tron

Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.

Galaga isn't jamma, so he'd have to get an adapter.

The obvious way to do that is to put an LCD running a Galaga screensaver in there... behind a fish tank.

As long as he doesnt ruin that artwork its okay.  Or when in doubt read the new rulebook on the matter.

Honestly though for 100 thats a nice score and i hope you keep galaga on whatever setup you have.  My galaxian will be loaded with most vert shumps (1945iii and such) incase you like those since the monitor is already vertical.

Also, if you could care less about it being original a broken galaga board and a galaga wiring harness should sell for enough to buy a bootleg jamma galaga board, jamma harness and power supply.

I used them for a Ms Pac repair and they were fantastic. Great communication and very prompt service. Highly recommended.

Thanks Mauzy. Looks like I can have it repaired for about the same price as an e-bay crap shoot.
