Star Trek 2008 trailier
« on: January 28, 2008, 08:10:55 pm »
I didn't think to copy the link to it before I came here, but just saw the "teaser" for the new film by J.J. Abrams (sp).   My first thought was "WHAT? Abrams directing Star Trek?"  After viewing the trailer, it still is.

I hate to say this, but this doesn't look good for the franchise. I don't care how successful Cloverfield is, or Lost, or Alias...handing Star Trek over to this guy is throwing a treasure away.

Could it really be any worse than 9 or 10?   Well, I suppose it could always be worse.  ;)

Nevertheless, I am optomistic.  The teaser looks pretty cool to me.  You didn't think so?

I'll take your word on that, ZH as I haven't seen anything he's directed.  He seems to be good at pissing off audiences, though.  :)

He directed Mission Impossible III, which was not only the best in the series (not saying much) but simply a really great action film, right up there with Casino Royale and the Bourne films (that's saying a lot more).  I see little reason to write it off as a lost cause at this point.  The guy is obviously capable of making very good films.

(to be clear, we're talking about J.J. Abrams right now, not Uwe Boll :) )

Let me put it this way..... he has THREE movies in the IMDb Bottom 100 films of all time.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll just drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

while mostly likely I'll go see it, I don't give it much expectation...

don't mean to argue, but I personally don't find MI3 good at all....
I think MI1 is way better....

I do like the Bourne series very much... 1st and 2nd are excellent...
3rd is also very good... but I like 2nd the most....

but I'm a star trek fans... so... I'll still watch it... I think.....
Another Brilliant mind ruined by education....  :p

Having yet to see 9 or 10 (they made 10? -where have I been?), I can't comment...but no, I really wasn't all that impressed.  I'll be patient, see what the next teaser offers...might be ok.  Just hate the way Lost went off the deep end, and I don't want him to do the same thing with this.

That's funny.  I thought #2 was the weakest of the three Bourne movies.  I didn't think MI 1 was very good, but I watched the TV show as a kid which gave me certain expectations.  I was ready for this super-talented, highly coordinated team of secret agents and instead someone killed the whole team off in the first five minutes and then the movie was just an action vehicle for Tom Cruise.  The second one was awful and, as I said, I think the third one was great.

I don't think I could say which of Bourne 1 or 2 was better. I liked 3 more than the first 2 though.

MI3 is also certainly better than the first two. Part 2 was nice because of the girl (woman) and the action/effects, but other than that it was pretty boring.

BTW About Star Trek. Is there a trailer that actually shows something. I saw some teasers and all the show is .. well basically nothing. Just some standard voice overs, a space flight sequence and building an Enterprise.

Nope, theres no other trailers for it yet, but there is plenty of information available if you search for it.  From what I remember, this is going to be a prequal to the original series and takes place when Kirk was in Starfleet Academy.

OK thanks. Makes sense since they plan on releasing it around christmas.

I did guesss the same timeframe loooking at the ship they are building in the trailer, but then you never know when time travel might strike.
