You'll have a ball. That's a great choice. I went to Italy for my honeymoon. It was fantastic and I would do it the same if I had to go back and do it again. But it was not a "vacation". You visit cities like Rome and Florence and you don't get a lot of rest. It's all climbing to the tops of cathedrals and walking great distances through art museums, etc. Our last two big vacations were Italy and New York, and we've vowed that the next one will be at an all inclusive resort on a beach. Actually, we've discussed the Dominican Republic because my dad used to work for Jet Blue, and so we'd be able to use buddy passes.
We did spend a few days in the Bahamas, though, and I can tell you, if it's anything like that the water is unbelievable. Stepping into it is like stepping into bath water. There's not even a fraction of a second where you feel a chill before acclimating to it. It's simply perfect the moment your first toe touches the water. And then there's the clarity. It's like blue glass. Grand Bahama Island is apparently surrounded by a coral reef that apparently acted as a natural filter, and I suppose that is the explanation, cos I live in Miami now, which is not far from the Bahamas at all, and the water isn't remotely close to as clear (or as warm, for that matter). I suspect that the beaches in the DR are going to be more like the Bahama beaches than the Miami beaches.
Anyway, congratulations! It was six years ago, at exactly the same time of year that I was planning my wedding and honeymoon and this is really bringing back the memories. I remember exactly how I felt once I had the plane tickets, hotels and train tickets all booked.
