NullDC problems
« on: January 21, 2008, 08:35:32 am »
I extracted all the nullDC files into their own directly, installed the Visual C++ runtime files, install the DirectX files it said I needed and placed the bios files into the data directory and when I choose "Normal Boot" and select my NRG file, I get the attached screenshot.  What is going on?

Just to let you know, I never could get "chankast" working since I believe my onboard video was not compatible. I do not have a ATI or GeForce video card, so I would assume this is my problem, but I am not sure.  Could someone please confirm this for me by looking at the picture below .... perhaps?

1) I seem to recall getting something similiar when I used a different graphics plugin.

I currently use the following:

Graphics:
nullPVR...

GDRom:
Image Reader plugin by drk, ect...

Sound:
Elsemi's...

Any chance you're using the Chankast plugin for your graphics?  By the way, I'm just using onboard video currently.

Ok, I am using the same plugins as you and when I start nullDC.   I click on "Normal Boot" and select my "Crazy Taxi.nrg" file and then the little bouncing ball and the "Dreamcast" text is displayed/   I then get this screen (see pic) but have no idea what to do now..... any ideas?  I am assuming it just can not start my CD image and simply takes me to the date/time page.   Can NullDC play NRG files directly?

Also it is obviously not in English ....is that normal?

You have a foreign .bin file probably.  Either your dc-boot.bin or dc_flash.bin isn't correct.  Those two files are the BIOS and Flash files that are dumped from your dreamcast.

It's normal to get to the point where you need to enter the date/time.  You set it once and that's it.  You can enable a virtual memory unit also when you boot without a cd/image file.

So if I redo my dc-boot and dc-flash files then this should work?

How do you set the date/time?

The NullDC readme files do not even mention what the default key mappings are for anything.

Default keyboard attached below is user configurable.  Just use up, down, left, and right with the A Button (V) to set the date and time.  As Hoopz mentioned you need the English version of the bios.

I've found that the Nulldc docs are lacking in general guidance.  And don't post questions in their forums also. They aren't very tolerant with most newbie questions.

There's a whole process of selecting what plugins to use, then configuring them etc.

Launch the program, go to "Options", then "Select Plugins".  Find what you want to use for inputs under "Maple (Inputs/Saves) Plugins:"

Once yo do that, go to "Options', then "Maple", then port A (probably) and setup your controls.

Here's a sample of the controls from one of the mods at the GameEx forum:

I do believe I am using the wrong bios files.  I will fix that .....thanks again for the advice.

Problem was I never selected anything for the "Maple" options so that is why the Port A stuff was never allowed to be selected.

I am going to use the "nullDC Controller [WinHook]" choice but I am not sure whether I need to select nullDC VMU as the expansion slots ..... what do you think ... should I leave the 2 expansion slots under PortA to be "None" or choose "nullDc VMU"?

(EDIT)
Everything seems to be working now ....... and I guess I would need to select an expansion slot "nullDc VMU" if I want my game play to be stored ..... correct?

I now can go read that other post explaining how nullDC can be started from the command line in fullscreen mode now ...... thanks for all the help.
(EDIT)

Did you install the lastest DirectX as wellk as the Microsoft Visual C++ runtimes which the Readme.txtfile requires?   Just a guess .....

I switched from this troubled pc and installed it on my cab one and it fired right up.

only problem now is when I select the maple option I can adjust the controller setup to work with the arcade controls but the memory save part is not working I can select port A and B but the following box for them is greyed out.

so now I need to figure out how to get the save part working.

Go into Options -> Select Plugins and there is a drop down arrow underneath the Maple plugin that you already selected.  Hit the down arrow and select nullDC (VMU).  It's the only option there so its easy to select.  :)

That should do it for you.

I do have it set for that already and it still does not work.

I checked the beta v1.0 folder and it contains 2 vmu files that my v1.6 does not have so I even tried to copy them and paste them into the v1.6 folder and hoped it worked but it did not.

also on the V1.0 beta it had a self installer where my v1.6 was a extractor type perhaps I need the V1.6 installer set-up instead of just extracting the files.

if that is the case where can I find that at?

it seems to me I am missing the files but dont understand why they were not included like the v1.0 beta lol.

EDIT: I got whatever I throw at it working but I may need more pc horsepower becuase it is a little to choppy to enjoy still.
