Chase HQ or Vanguard ?
« on: January 18, 2008, 03:51:18 pm »
So, if you needed to choose one of the above, what would you get ? And why ?

P.S. I have to mention that the Chase HQ is of course the European version. The Vanguard probably is too, not sure though.

Wow, tough call.  Two of my favourite games.  Vanguard was one of the first games I really threw a lot of quarters in and is high on my want list.  Chase HQ was a game we played a lot in college as the pizza place we went to had one.

If I had to pick, I would go with Vanguard.  Mostly becuase my MAME cab isn't setup with the four way fire buttons so it isn't really playable.
My current collection:  Arkanoid^3, Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede, Donkey Kong w/DIIK, Frenzy w/Berzerk multi, Galaga, Galaxian, Gyruss, Mappy,  Missile Command, Multi-Williams, O'Boyles Arcade (Mame), Pac-man,  Sinistar, Star Wars, Tempest, War Gods

Vanguard, mainly because I like classics.  Also, it's a bit hard to compare a non-driving 'classic' to a driving 'post-classic'.

I had to repair a Chase HQ for someone and played it through the game completely with about 5 quarter inserts to continue game to the end.  I don't know what the settings were on (easy vs hard?), but it had about as much fun as Turbo did (which was limited).  I'd pick Pole Position for a classic driver, and perhaps OutRun or Top-Speed as a post-classic, and one of the hard drive driving games as a 'new' driver.

I guess I would get the Vanguard. It's more in my era. And Chase is OK, but not THAT special. Still, I've got a pin coming and my house can't handle anymore cabs :(.

Did receive some pics of both the Vanguard and the ChaseHQ:

I recognize that production sticker on that last pic. It's the same kind of sticker as was on that Puckman wall-machine I opened a thread about(http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75651.0):

This shows this Vanguard was also built by NSM in Germany.

There's no side art on the left side strangely. And I wonder where I've seen that other side art before. That Vanguard name looks like a sticker covering another name on that side-art.

Kinda neat machine. Not in great shape, but cheap and working....

I only just noticed. My Taito Double Axle had a very simular cab. Both built in the UK. The shifter is on the wrong side on the Chase HQ !

I'd pass on both and wait for something better.

Good point...if you are running out of room as it is, you just need to ask yourself if either is a must have for you, or perhaps might be somthing you could make a profit on when you do come across a must have later on.

Wow, that Chase HQ is in great shape.  If the price was right, that would be a hard one to pass up.

I've never seen that artwork on the Vanguard before.
