Simple & easy
« on: January 15, 2008, 08:53:12 am »
Hello everyone, been a while!  Glad to see the community is still running strong.

I'm posting today from a different angle.  I'm building a cab for the biggest arcade enthusiast I know, unfortunately, he is also the least computer literate person I know.  So my question is simple, features be damned, what is the simplest front end going?

Basically, I want something simple, stable, and strait forward enough to unleash in a daycare or retirement home.  Anyway, I think you all get the idea, any suggestions?

You can try Atomic Fe and his plug'n play modules.

Try for instance the Arcade_Simple one.  You just have to copy roms in a folder.

Thanks for the feedback guys.  I'll dl and take a look at both.  Right now I'm looking at mala which seems pretty strait forward, I might check into disabling right-clicking and run with that.  I'm really excited to be getting this guy set up and its important to me he not feel overwhelmed, or frustrated.  I currently use Mamewah, but I'm afraid a missed key stroke could cause problems (like switching emus).  Just got to get it down to the least common denominator.

It pretty cool to have taken a break from the hobby and come back.  There have been some great advances while I was away.

If you try AtomicFe , just before running it the first time , run in the AtomicFe folder the exe :

Codec_tscc.exe

It is codec for the default introvideo.

If extreme user friendliness is what you want, use 2 U360 joysticks, all electric ice buttons with an ledwiz, and Mala.

I have two 49way sticks, the first software configured sticks that I purchased before the U360 existed.  I also have all electric ice buttons/trackball with the ledwiz.  When I choose any game, Mala automatically sets the joystick to the correct mode and lights the buttons used to the original game colors.
