Which monitor (D9200 vs K7400) ?
« on: May 15, 2003, 03:16:38 pm »
I am trying to decide on a mointor to get for my cabinet and I'm torn between the WG D9200 and WG K7400.  Assume for the sake of discussion that price has no impact on my decision :-)

I've heard that the WG D9200 dot pitch is "too good" and the standard res games don't have an authentic look because of it.  The K7400 will give the authentic look but doesn't support all resolutions and will have some degredation when running 24khz and 31khz games (using ArcadeVGA).

Can any of the D9200 owners give their opitions on how authentic the games look ?  I'm not too picky about authenticity but I know I hate the way MAME looks on my 19" .25mm dot pitch computer monitor, which I presume is because the resolution and dot ptich are "too good".

Does anyone here have a K7400 that can offer some feedback.  I assume all the standard res games look near perfect but how do the 24 and 31khz games look ?

Here are couple of pics of k7400 running 640x480 using scan converter.at the time there was no arcade vga so I bought a scan converter.
the monitor is...awsome !

Nothing wrong with k7400.just that it only 15khz !  :P

I have seen d9200 and honeslty cant tell the difference between k7400 and d9200 running at 640x480 but again I never seen either d9200 or k7400 running at 15khz using arcadevga video card.
BUT k7400 worked really well using extron super emotia scan converter !  :D
I would still say go for the big fish(d9200) !  :)
You have opition of running higer res games like golden tee for pc or other pc games on d9200.

(I am just telling you what I would personally do if I had to run games at 15khz.I would get d9200)

Thanks for the screenshots and the advice!  I think I am leaning towards the 9200 but now its a matter of refurb or not :)  I'm probably going to go for the new one, I think the year warranty over the 30 day warranty is definitely wortht the $ if I'm going to buy such a monitor.

I recently posted some information on my site about the difference between modern high-resolution monitors and the classic arcade standard resolution monitors.

I haven't personally seen the D9200 myself but I expect it will have a finer dot pitch than the K7400 if it is intended to display high resolution (VGA) images.
