arcade mini marque
« on: January 13, 2008, 07:27:08 pm »
I have a T-Mek arcade that works very well and everything works EXCEPT the two mini marques.  The are not getting power and when I jump power from the coin door to the lights they do come on.  Any ideas on what might be the problem?  What kind of tools should I have to troubleshoot?  Thanks!

Duh, I now saw the sticky on how to use a mulitimeter to test things.  I am still new to this and even working on a cabinet I have not a clue what I am doing but I will try to get through that sticky to find out how to work on these things.  One of my biggest concerns is how to find connectors that are used in the cabinets.  I have one that is questionable as it has a scorch mark on the plug thats giving me problems.

Best way to tackle a "loss of power" problem is to start from the lamp itself and work your way backwards until you find power again. (with a multimeter)
Probably just a bad connection since everything else seems to work.

What kind of lamps do the mini marquees use?

The fuse looking bulbs.  I traced the connection and its a solid wire until it hits a power distribution board.  The connector on that has a burnt plug but the other side should still work as it is on a differant plug.

Glancing at the schematics.....
What all is on the part they have labeled as Light Board?
Is there some sort of relay or anything on those?
(there should be a board for each side)

Both sides are pretty much identical, except each one has a different spot on the power distribution board to plug into. And they share a common ground. (seen in diagram below)

So it looks like 12V power comes from the distribution board to the "light board" and then from there to the lamp itself.
Not sure why it's tied to the pin labeled Light 1 (Light 2 on the other side) unless it's a triggered light for some reason. Like when you get shot or something like that.
I know my Road Riot has seat thumpers that work similar to that and I believe Steel Talons had something similar as well. (just a shot in the dark though)

The board that distributes the power has the connections for both sides right beside each other....I will take a pic tonight.  I traced them to the same power source and same ground source.
