US Plastics for Lexan purchases
« on: January 11, 2008, 09:10:35 am »
Not sure if this is the right area to post it, but since this is about woodworking and construction and the Lexan overlay is needed to complete the construction, I thought I'd post about it here.

I needed to get a Lexan overlay for my CP that is being built.  I wanted a thin overlay since my CP top is 3/4" plywood so I didn't want a big, thick overlay on top of it.  I wound up finding www.usplastic.com and was able to buy a 2 foot by 4 foot piece of 1/16" thick Lexan for only about $30 when shipping was included.  Since the sheet is so thin, it is very easy to work with and the test cuts I've made have been perfect.  I ordered it earlier this week and received it yesterday so it arrived VERY quickly.  (Much quicker than my latest order from Happ which has taken over 3 weeks now.   :hissy:).

So if you're looking for Polycarbonate or Acrylic sheets for your cabinet, check out usplastics.  I have been quite happy so far.

EDIT:  Perhaps we could make this thread a sticky so we'll have a constantly up to date place to buy Lexan and/or Plexiglass if needed.  I'll list all the sites below:

US Plastics

TAP Plastics

E-Street Plastics

wow, that site is pretty cool.  I may have to order some clear PETG sheets soon to make pinball plastics out of... thanks for the pointer.

No problem.  The prices are very resonable and they have a huge selection of different thicknesses and whatnot.  The shipping is incredibly fast.  I just looked up my invoice and it was $32.00 for a 2'x4' slab of 1/16" Lexan.  I'll be buying more from them when I buy my Marquee Lexan and some clear panel to cover the monitor part of the cab.

TAP Plastics is also a pretty good resource. Don't know how their prices compare to US Plastics. They're on the West Coast, so shipping might be cheaper for some people. I'm lucky enough to have one in my neighborhood, so I just walk-in and buy whatever I need. They're a good source for fiberglass supplies in addition to plastics.

I just ordered a sheet 12x36x3/4 for $46.00. It was another 12 or something bucks to ship.

Thanks for this post, I looked at a sheet of lexan @ my local lowes and almost fainted at the price ($50+)!

I can buy the sheet I wanted, plus a sheet of smoked plexi for in front of the TV monitor from those sites ;)

I have been using US plastics for a while now. They are very helpful over the phone and the shipping times are incredible.

Hell yeah.  I couldn't believe how quickly my Lexan arrived.  I was stunned, and quite happy.  VERY good place to buy Lexan/Plexiglass from.

Do these places sell plastic laminate too?  Like if I wanted to laminate a sheet of plywood or something to make it one solid color?

I don't know for sure, but that's typically the sort of thing that you'd find at a woodworking store rather than a plastics store. Plus, laminates often come in 4'x8' sheets which are hard to ship by UPS...
