Does RE4 still kill the new Wii's GPU?
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:36:16 pm »
I have heard the some launch Wii's get their GPU damaged when playing RE4. And leaving Wii connect 24 on standby. Also a co-worker damaged his launch Wii with RE4.

RE4 doesn't so much 'kill the GPU' as 'show early signs of inevitable GPU rot'. Even if you didn't play RE4, you'd fall victim to it eventually if you had a bad GPU. RE4 just showed it faster than other stuff.

However, if you haven't encountered it yet, or sent it in for that problem already, you should be fine.

You'll be fine if  it was a present from this year, most likely. Certainly unlikely enough to not worry.

Plus, Nintendo's service is FAST. I had mine back within a week of sending it out when my Wii ran into trouble.

The first two links are blocked here at work.

Any idea on the serial number range affected?

I got my Wii at Christmas at last year and I don't have RE4. Not interested in discovering a bad Wii late 2008.

As far as I know (and from what I see on those web pages) it's not a serial number range, its just a random few Wii's that are effected.  Apparently the problem can be seen in pretty much every other game (one person even said they had it in the photo channel), but it's just the most noticable in RE4.  Heres a youtube video of the problem so you know what to look for:
