Help with PC to Arcade monitor - Chassis RODO-JW888A
« on: January 04, 2008, 08:42:36 pm »
I've made a VGA to RGB cable reading some tutorials over the net, but now I'm not sure if I need something else to connect the PC to the Monitor.
I just want to test if it works then I'll make some tweaking if required.
I've read here that some software is needed like powerstrip to get the right resolution and Hz.
What happens if I connect it directly with no software at all?
May I damage the monitor?

I'm pretty newbie at Arcades  :D
I've started a topic here with the evolution of the project, you can look some pictures.

Anybody?

I have Powerstrip now, but I'm not sure how to configure it. I've read the sticky thread but still I'm not sure what I'm doing.
Here's a screenshot of the config I think it is the right one:

Maybe is my lcd display that do not support that config, when I put that screen goes black and says "out of range".
Should I work on a CRT monitor?

Is it really needed to change the resolution before connect to the RGB?

Likely it'll be fine, just display a double image.  Don't run it like that forever, but you can see if you did it right that way.

Hey Peale,
Thank you for your reply, I did connect it and it display a double image like you said. I then fix it by selecting 640x480i on Powerstrip.

Now the image looks a bit distorted to the left, I played with the controls on the chassis but I wasn't able to get it right.
Also it seems like the red color is missing, I don't know if it is some bad soldering I did on the PC to Arcade cable or if it is a porblem on the monitor. And there is some little shaking on the image.
Can I fix these problems? or they are unfixable?

The guy who sold  me the cabinet said that the image was distorted to the left, and that it can be fix.

I'm posting a picture with the image I get here:
(note: the image is not that green as seen in this picture)

and a pic from the chassis, model is RODO-JW888A:

thanks.

Anybody?

I've checked the cable I made and it is OK, so I guess there's something wrong with the monitor.
symptoms: no RED color, image a little distorted to the left at the top.

Easy to fix? ???

a bit difficult to positively tell by the pic, but it appears that there may be corrosion present . (?)
which can, and will,  eat away the component legs .
there also appears to be a resistor missing or damaged (??) along the rgb input lines .
should also check the red driver xistor on the crt pcb .
the deflection issues are most likely the result of failing electrolytic capacitors around the vert output stages .
the small 'lytics may be the most likely in this instance ......
i dont have a print . sry , can't provide reference #'s  :(

thanks for your help, very useful.
I don't know much about electronics so I'll get some technician to fix it.
any ideas how much it will cost in the worst possible scenario?

The distortion is caused by a sync issue.  Looks like you might be able to adjust it out.

The color...can you test the monitor with something else that outputs red?

Can you switch the red wire for the blue wire and see if the problem travels?

thanks again for your response.

Today a technician toll me by phone that there's a sync issue, the same that you said.
I can't sync it, I've touched all the potentiometers and I'm not able to sync the image right. It is always distorted at the top, a little bit curved. Also there's two potentiometers that are labeled "SCREEN" and "FOCUS", I never touched those ones, they're located in a box that says High Voltage.

About the color the technician said that it maybe is a compatibility problem with the computer(???), I don't think this can be true.

Please some help  needed, if this 29" monitor is not fixable I have to put a 20" TV, too small for fighting games.

About the color: did you do as I suggested, switching the wires around?

As for the sync, I'm inclined to agree that there's some sort of incompatibility issue there.  Might want to try just + sync or - sync instead of composite sync.

Hey Peale, thanks again, I apreciate a lot your help.

I'm gonna try swap the wires as you suggested when I get home tonight.

What do you mean by incompatibility issue?
the guy who sold me the cabinet with the monitor said that it need repair, and that the image was distorted to the left, it was connected to a JAMMA PCB.

Do you think that this monitor cannot be connected to a computer? I've tested it on two graphic cards ( FX5200 and ATI 9600 PRO), and I get the same problem.

Thanks again.

BTT, I've got the same board and am hoping to fix a similar issue - top of screen bends to the left. Over the course of the next couple of weeks I hope to be replacing the caps...

Any update on this?

I found a new technician that specialized on Arcade Monitors, I talked by phone and he says it is an easy problem to fix, maybe some transistors broken.
He comes monday the next week, I'll update this post when fixed, I hope so.

Good luck!
