Arkanoid Restoration Complete!
« on: January 03, 2008, 07:46:59 pm »
Been wanting one of these machines for a long time now and came across this one on Ebay for pretty cheap, so I snagged it. Be on the lookout for a new "Restoration" thread once I get it.  Needs LOTS of TLC, but she'll get there.

Ok, so we will start with some before pics. I removed the monitor and the screen burn on it is immense! This is originally a Q*bert and the screen burn is so bad that it looks like the game is on even when it's off. So, the monitor is deffinately going to be replaced. I have a new CPO and some custom side art on the way being that this machine has none. The spinner works fine, but the gears are loud and annoying. I have a 3" HAPP trackball that I am going to install instead of using that spinner. (If I can interface it correctly that is) That's all for now. More soon...

If I had it, it would be returned to it's original state....Q*bert.

That monitor looks like it has been on forever !!!

I am restoring it to Arkanoid as a gift for my father. It's the only game he ever really enjoyed playing and I hope it will bring a smile to his face. I thought about going back to Q*bert, but I am sticking with the Arkanoid conversion. Yes, the monitor is crazy. Although, when it's installed, on, and the tinted glass is over it, you can't see the screen burn at all. It's like night and day with the tinted glass on and off.

Started working on the control panel today. Only had about an hour or so before I had to leave after I got home from work, so what you see was done in that time. I have to wait until I get my new CPO before I can drill the fire buttons, 1-player button and the credit buttons. I am going to make a "Credits" button on the control panel because Arkanoid has no Free Play dip switch. Going to work on removing the Q*bert wiring and cleaning the cab up tomorrow.

Still waiting on my new CPO and sideart to be printed up, so a small update till then for those who are following along (granted probably not many). Got the sides and front all stripped down and painted. Installed new t-molding as well. As soon as the aforementioned items along with my new montior arrive, the heat will be turned up. Until then...

Alright...Got my new sideart, CPO, and new"ish" monitor. Gonna slap it all on/in and start drilling the holes in the control panel that I have been waiting to do until the CPO got here.

Got the machine inside and applied the sideart. Also got the control panel finished, but my new monitor does not turn on. I plug it in and it does nothing. I plug the old one back in and it turns on just fine, so I am on hold again due to that. Here are some update pics...

All done! Had to replace a burned up Horizontal Driver Transistor on the monitor, but it's all good now. There is also no "Free Play" setting on this game, so I had to make a "Credit" button and installed it on the CP next to the right Fire button.  Thanks to those who followed along. See you on the next Resto!

Where are you? I can get a shipping quote. It might be pretty cheap because the machine is not very heavy or big.
