Picking up this cab tonight, PLEASE help me identify what it was!**CAB IS HOME!!
Daniel B.:
Many things have occured since I posted this, tons of people coming out of the woodwork with machines for sale. I have a good contact that I'm going to be meeting up with first that has a ton of empty cabs to sift through. He knows a few had 25" monitors to begin with, which is good for me because I'm wanting to use the TV. If this one is only 24" wide I'm kinda screwed because the tv is 26".
The stairwell to the basement is 28" with the rail taken off. I will let everyone know what I come up with tonight. This is my first cab and I am VERY EXCITED to get my hands on one. I just don't want to jump the gun and get something that I will eventually be unhappy with. I guess that just means I'll likely be getting more cabs. The wife seems to be getting in on it and has been scouring craigslist and is turning up some interesting stuff. Looks like ultimately we may have 3 machines before all said and done. One in the "Man Cave" (basement) one in the patio/breezeway, and one upstairs.
AWESOME!
Thanks again guys.

oh my god. Last night was fantastic. I met up with a guy with tons of cabs and picked these 2 lucky ones out of the lot. On the red one, one corner is a little ate up but I'm not worried about it after seeing so many corner repair threads on this forum - we will see what happens with it. The real find that I am the most excited about however, is this namco "candy cab". I've always loved the looks of these, and now I have my very own! The only thing I'm missing is the CP, but he does have it and I will hopefully be getting it within a few weeks. The whole trip back home I was worrying myself into thinking I would never be able to afford a monitor for it, and that I was pretty much screwed. NOT SO! I measured the opening around the bezel and it's right at 26 1/2" inches!!! I measured my 27" tv, and it was the same thing! This is going to be easier than I thought!!! The inside of the thing is FULL of namco tokens, lol.
Both machines have coindoors, the red one has the locks as well. Also has the nice full peice of smoked glass for the front. He had several neo-geo machines that I was really on the fence on, but a tape measure decided my fate. I didn't have a monitor to fit in them so I went with this guy, who according to the manufacturer was used by capcom (The cp tells the same story, dunno if it was some middleman shady arcade guys doing or not) Anyways, the machine had a monitor and a 48/1 board in it that he took out before I got it. I could not be happier. This couldn't have been a better "first arcade project experience" in my book. I personally think that these are a good start and I can't wait to get to work on them. Unfortunately it's freezing in Nebraska right now so I'm afraid I won't get started as quickly as possible. Anyways, enough talk, lets bring on the pics!!!
I can take more pictures tonight if anything wants to see anything specific, but I highly doubt you do, lol.
Anyone know what this namco "candy" is really called? How about the other machine? What do you think used to be played on here? Anyone selling the right CP for this candy?
Thanks for looking!
APFelon:
I believe that the non-candy cab is a generic cabinet used for kits and the like. Judging by the covered button holes, it used to be a Street Fighter (or some variant thereof). I found those types of cabinets sort of unfriendly as access to the bottom of the cabinet is limited and working on a chassis from the back hatch is a real pain. A word of advice: don't drop anything down there if you ever want to see it again! LOL!

its a Dynamo Z-back , typically used for street fighters and even some neo geos. no dedicated Z backs I know of
