Looking for an answer, Gun VS TV
« on: December 28, 2007, 02:36:23 pm »
Ok, I am in the middle of transferring a cabinet into a mulicade sort-a-speak.  I have a card that will allow 4 games to be plugged in and with the tap of a button I can change which one will be played.  Now, the question I have been trying to get an answer to for some time is can I hook up a gun for my area 51 / max force to work with a normal TV running off of a jamma board?  I have heard a few tell me yes and a few tell me know.  I need to know if it is possible. If so do I need to modify anything?  My biggest reason for going to a normal TV is well, you all know that the arcade styles are going out of style and regular tvs are more abundant and a heck of alot cheaper.  Help....please!!! :hissy: :hissy:

Give it a shot.  Then let us know. :)  I've only used guns with real arcade monitors.  How do you have the TV hooked up to a JAMMA cab?

Best,

Well, I dont have it hooked up yet.  But I do have the board and guns.  I am in the middle of finishing the cabinet right now and I wanted to know if it would work before I purchase the final componets.  I will be running the TV off of a converter card which transfers the RGB signal to a normal signal through RCA cables.

assuming sd scan rates, it should provide a pic . though it may (?) be possible that the delay induced by signal processing will affect the initial accuracy. if so, hopefully it will be within the range of calibration.

suggest trying it on any composite capable set available --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- purchasing new,  and go with the results .

So it should work then.  I will be getting a used TV set rather than buy anything new.  It will be one of the curved TV's and not a flat screen.  I am going to try to find a 34" screen.  Hopefully this will work.  I should know by Febuary if it does work.  I expect to have everything put together and done by then.

still suggest testing it on a set --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- spending time/$$ .   haste makes waste.

The only way I can test it is by buying all the stuff I need to install it.  So its not haste its more like necessity.

Oh, no problem.  I really appriciate any help right now.  I am soooo very new at this.  I just got the first coat of paint on tonight.  I am going to apply the next coat for that color in about a hour and a half and then tommorrow I will be putting on the black.

Everywhere you see white will be black tomorrow. :applaud:
