Wal-Mart was holding out on us
« on: December 27, 2007, 10:38:16 pm »
My wife and I did our annual Dec 26th day after sales hunt and were so surprised to see 8 Wii's at one Wal-Mart and 7 at another.  What a surprise.  Did these just magically arrive on Christmas day/night or were they just holding them in the back to annoy us.  Something doesn't add up.  Target - 0 Wii's. 2 different Gamestops - 0 Wii's. Circuit City - 0 Wii's.  Three different Wal-Marts - 15 Wii's.

Well, even though I didn't get one for Christmas, I at least got an early Birthday Present.

I think they were holding some back.   A friend who works at Best Buy told me they do the same thing.  They havent had any guitar hero 3's in for the last couple of weeks and mysteriously they have a 4' stack of them on the 26th!  (of course by the time i found this out, they were all gone...doh!)

What exactly would be the point of these stores holding back the hottest items of the season until AFTER christmas??

The Wii's at Wal-Monster come in via UPS or Fedex and Nintendo has been rapid shipping them, Gamestop started getting them on Saturdays which they normally do not. One Wal-mart near me received 100 the week before christmas, and 18 the day after christmas.

Not defending Wal-Mart here, as a former manager I hate them..

But I got me a WII

In Canada we have huge sales on boxing day (december 26th) similar to black friday sales in the US.  So im guessing having hard to find items would draw people into the stores.  :dunno

I went to Walmart on New Years Eve to pick up a few poster frames and decided to stop by the electronics department. There were 2 Wiis in the case and somebody was buying one of them. I managed to get the last one before 4 more people rolled up looking for a Wil.

I got one for my son back in october I think at Gamestop.  The guy put out 12 consoles and by the time I got mine, there was 4 left.  Great console though.  I think I'm going to pick one up.
