I picked up an old gateway destination 27" computer monitor for 100 dollars works perfect. The only problem is i need to remove the casing. The monitor has side speakers is there anything special i need to be concerned about?(I don't plan on using the speakers)

Check the other threads here about removing casing from a 27" TV (you might not want to do it!), and the other posts about what to watch out for when working around the fragile tube neck and the eletrical risks.
