What to do against colour distortion?
« on: December 16, 2007, 07:04:14 pm »
Hey guys. Lately, my monitor is making the perfectionist inside me sigh. I realised some colour distortions. Especially the top left corner has a red tint that smoothes out a bit which is most obviously seen on blue backgrounds. The top of the screen is also a bit weired as the colours are a bit "untrue" there. What I mean by that is when I make Akuma perform a dragon punch and his head hits the top center edge, his hair isn't as red as usual but has a yellowish tint. I already tried to degauss it like crazy but that didn't change a thing. Actually this little detail keeps pi**ing me off so much, that I don't have the urge to continue the work on my machine,e ven though it's not much left to do - I rather like to keep it out of sight : /

Maybe this problem sounds familiar to someone and can be fixed rather easily?

I made a liitle pic, to show what I mean...

Cheers

Thanks for the answer - now I know what I have to try for a start. Even though I hoped it could be fixed in a less dangerous way ; )

whats dangerous about a manual degauss wand-unless of course you're gonna attempt to make your own using an old degauss coil and a microswitch ???

ahm, actually I didn't read alot on this matter yet - just sounded dangerous ; ) I basically skipped almost the entire chapter in the Project Arcade book, since I knew I was gonna use a normal, CASED monitor. As i said, I now know where to start: Read about how to manually degauss a monitor. : )

really you should buy a degauss wand on ebay, they are cheap enough.  Cursed Link That's Too Long Made Short By Moderator

are you sure you don't have a speaker near that part of the screen?

thank you very much for the link! Now I know what is meant by a degaussing coil and how it isused. Sounds rather easy. Actually (for no particular reason except my imagination), I just imagined a degaussing coil to be some sort of grounding device that is attached to the back of the picture tube or some other "dangerous" area of the monitor. But THIS really looks as safe as going into a club (the ones that play loud music) with industrial grade hearing protectors! COOL!

Maybe I could also use it for my TV which has a yellow spot on the left and a blue spot on the right from time to time, sadly it just had a new problem about minutes ago. It displays a bright green picture and then turns off by itself. I feel like my appartment got electrically cursed - I can't really afford a new TV at the moment *sigh*

To answer your last question: Yes, there is a speaker near the monitor (over it), BUT it is a shielded PC speaker in it's original shielded case. AND there is another one on the other side causing no such distortion. AND the distortion stays when I put the speaker away or turn it off (already thought about the speaker being the cause). AND I think, the distortion already showed before I had the speaker shelf in place which means it already showed, when the speakers were placed significantly away from the monitor.
